Being the conversationalist that Bill is. I always enjoy these pressers. Bill's candid breakdown and free exchange of ideas is always enlightening. Bill has established himself as a jovial, exceedingly friendly coach, who loves spending time with reporters and sharing thoughts on the game. Nothing makes Bill happier than a spirited debate on game theory and coaching styles. In this podium appearance, Bill offered detailed wisdom and insight, along with a full explanation of today's game and the preparation that affected its outcome. I found it insightful and informative to say the least, although some technical aspects Bill touched on lost me at times. Thank you for sharing.

@davidb5728 Yeah, I agree. But it's pure comedy. There's another video of greatest Belichick moments etc that is priceless ! Here in Tennessee, we get Vrabel's version. It's clear that Vrabel is a graduate of the Bill Belichick Academy of Communication and Media Arts. Vrabel just turned around and walked out of a presser a few weeks ago. Vrabel loathes reporters and hasn't fully answered a question since he's been the head coach. But, a great coach.

    • Kass SaiYaJiN

@tom benemann I mean anything that isn't completely obvious. Literally every question here is so brain numbingly dumb, it's like they didn't watch the game. Also it's not Bill's job to make the media a living. They are Patriots reporters not Bill Belichick reporters so the idea he's the only source for the media makes little sense.

Brady is a grown man, Brady did not want to take the money that both Kraft and Bill were offering. So he decided to leave OK it happens get over it.
This is a darn business… If the business future is not with what you have you make changes in every damn single business. Yeah, Tom is doing well in Tampa and that probably was meant to be, I don’t think waiting till Tom was done was a good idea for this franchise. I’ve been a fan since 1960 I’ve seen the very very Lowe’s in the highs. And those lows and high Happen based upon decisions made and money available. You win some you lose some, but in this case I think it was correct to cut the ties with Brady. I don’t know how much longer I have on this earth but I would love to see a team with a young quarterback move forward. I think we did the right thing

  • Acoustic Shadow
Acoustic Shadow 4 months ago +17

Congrats to the Bills, they certainly deserved this win. On the plus side, I had the Pats at 9-8/8-9 (or worse) before the season started, so I'll take 10-7 and a playoff berth with a rookie QB. We need to make some changes on this team, for sure - but with Mac at QB, New England's future is bright.

    • Acoustic Shadow
      Acoustic Shadow 4 months ago

@Lucario690 ~ It's waaaay too early to close the book on Mac Jones, or even fairly assess his ceiling as an NFL QB. Josh Allen didn't blossom until his third year (2020); some take even longer to mature. Mac did a great job this season, especially for a kid who had to fill Tom Brady's cleats. Plus, there's a big diff between college & pro football. BIG. There's a lot to learn. Imho, Mac's rookie year was a success, but his full potential won't be realized for at least a few seasons yet. The only ones who claim to know better at this point are fans of other teams. 😝

    • Lucario690
      Lucario690 4 months ago

@Acoustic Shadow Im not gonna lie, I got way too excited during that 7 game win streak. I guess I was expecting too much from Mac during his rookie year. I think he's good but, not great. But like I said let me see how he does next season. 10-7 isnt bad for a rookie and he started all 17 games this season. So some positives there.

    • Acoustic Shadow
      Acoustic Shadow 4 months ago

@Bi-Polar Bear I still can't believe the Pats signed Cam Newton, but have to admit - I didn't think he'd be as bad as he was. πŸ˜‚

    • Acoustic Shadow
      Acoustic Shadow 4 months ago

@Lucario690 Pats peaked early. That 7-game winning streak included victories over some bad teams, and good teams with depleted rosters. A lot of things went NE's way during that stretch, which may have fooled us into thinking we were better than we actually were. The Mac 3-pass game where we beat the Bills in Buffalo, was a stellar example of brilliant coaching. Belichick & staff took advantage of the elements, while Buffalo tried to ignore them. The Bills remained the better team - but the Pats were smarter in a hurricane. NE could have easily finished 8-9, too.

Thus, they want to feel Holy, everybody (except psychos) want to feel great about themselves.
So these people who have never helped anyone, suddenly feel holy for calling good men like Gruden a racist, and ruining his life, just so they can feel self-sanctified.

    • Maple Bear
Maple Bear 4 months ago +1

@Science and God - Bill Morgan Exactly! Tim Brown who is a HOF WR that played for Gruden in OAK and TB said he never once got any kind of racist vibe from Gruden. I'm sorry you don't coach football for a living if you are racist. The Bucs are the NFLs little darling these days yet they have Richard Sherman (woman beater) Antonio Brown was there (long list) Suh (stomps Rogers balls on thanksgiving day). Corey Dillon was a crack dealer, Hernandez was killing folks..Yeah Gruden is a real villain here. Win, lose or draw Gruden never showed a lack of decency like Bill did in this press conference.

A respectable season with a rookie quarterback. Serious problems have to to be addressed, such as why a defense that looked so great for a stretch suddenly turned to sh*t. Is McCourty, Hightower, etc. still capable of high end play and especially leadership?

    • blackprix
      blackprix 4 months ago +2

This defense hasn’t been playing well for the last four games, this was not as surprising as most things to me. That was my concern for all of the last five games… I think Bill’s son is a defensive coordinator that may be a point of contention. I’m not sure he’s ready to be a coordinator, obviously I’m not a football coach it’s an opinion

@Laxa30 Team speed is seriously lacking. Jones is a game manager and isn't used to dudes in his face for 60 minutes. Chuck Noll was once asked why a young player was outperforming everyone else on the field and how to do you coach that. Noll said, you don't coach it, you draft it. I think it was cold and even JC Jackson was getting smoked by Stephon Diggs.

As A Bills fan my take on Pats defense was that it looked like Judon was definitely not 100. Hightower also playing dinged up. Judson is a beast but it didn't show last 1/4 of the season. In fairness to Bill and any coach in the NFL, how deeply can they talk about their strategies and game plan without revealing important pieces of information about how they generally conceive of the string of tactical maneuvers it takes to upend another team? You talk too much, and your opponent begins learning how you think. A big part of why Bill has been so successful is his ability to not revel in glory and open his mouth. It makes games like the earlier meeting of these two teams-where Bill opted to have the ball thrown only three times-possible, because his opponents are still unable to predict just what he's going to do, despite his being a coach for decades.
On the reporter side of this, I would love to see the press corps all agree that after Bill comes out and makes his opening statement, they just say, "Okay, thanks Bill. Next!" Maybe if they did that consistently for the next season, asking no further questions, Bill's opening statements would get better.

@Oliver Howell take away all Macs 5-10 yard tds to Hunter Henry and he's worse than Sam Darnold. You can't play that game. My point is Cam sucks and was blamed for everything last year yet with a CFL roster had better numbers than Mac and lost the same amount of games. So how does Cam suck completing 66% but Mac is a franchise QB at 67%. People aren't consistent Cam was bad and got ripped for it Mac is bad and gets coddled with a much better team. Brady still amazing and eveyone around here givs Bill a pass 17-17 last 2 years.

    • Oliver Howell
      Oliver Howell 4 months ago

@jay 1988 take away all those 1 yard rushing touchdowns and cam has 8 touchdowns and 10 turnovers for the pats last year. Didn’t make the playoffs and should be a certified veteran at his age. This is Macs first year. Not even comparable

    • jay 1988
      jay 1988 4 months ago

      Cams numbers in 15 games
      20tds 11 turnovers 66% comp
      Macs numbers in 18 games
      24tds 18 turnovers 67% comp
I agree Cam was terrible last year but fellow pats fans thinking Mac was much better are delusional. Mac vs the jets and jags #2 rated QB vs every other team #23 he really wasn't that good this year with a way better team than Cam had and a full training camp. Cam before covid had a better game vs the Seahawks than any game Mac had all year. While i agree Cam was bad so was Mac mostly. He needs to cut his turnovers in half and have 10 more tds before he even becomes Kirk Cousins.

To even make the playoffs after the hit you took is incredible. Cheers to you patriots fans. You’ve always whooped our asses and won super bowls. They got lucky with the comeback kid, admit it Brady is the MVP of the pats and without him it be 20 years of pain, there is something about Mac that gives me the milky bar kid vibes

@Fart Mckee for some reason I'm thinking about that Subway commercial with Brady when that woman in the background whispers "but you don't eat bread" Go Buccaneers! Boom!

@B17 Fan Rest assured Patriots will never win a super bowl again. At least not in your lifetime

Heads need to roll on that defense. We weren't great in any area of the game, but our D has really let us down the past month or so. They went from amazing to total collapse.
Hopefully we can pick up some better defensive guys, and get Mac some better receivers, in the off-season. Brush it off, restructure, and come back to kick their asses next year.

He has his 2 sons coaching on defense... nepotism killed the patriots. You know for a fact there are better coaches out there than his joe dirt looking son.
