Should've gone to a dealer and told them you had issues with vibration while driving and have them inspect it.

If you are going to try it with wood again might want to try building it out of plywood and using multiple layers glued together and possibly bolted down the length of the shaft maybe try and alternate the grain of the plywood when doing that.

  • Ted Tries Tech
Ted Tries Tech 6 hours ago

you need to laminate plywood and take to a woodshop to have it turned to the exact size!

  • Morgan Adair

Apparently too much free time... put either iron wood or some extreme known strong in the lathe and turn it as well as put the remained shafts in lathe and true it all.... knotty wood versus clear wood yada yada

  • dionisis001
    dionisis001 13 hours ago

you should try screwing cylidrical pieces together to make a long cylinder and then do the same but with a hollow center so it looks like a tube to see if it's stronger.......

Turn the post down on a lathe so you can get it to minimul run out, turn it down 1/2" smaller than I'd of ends, fiberglass it to exact size, then coat in 200mph tape.

how about a pvc pipe wrapped in duct tape???? Maybe start with a 3 inch pvc pipe and build it up with the duct tape till it firs and bolt that bad boy in.

  • TheBeaterCar
    TheBeaterCar 20 hours ago

Fun fact, two 2x4s glued and screwed together will be stronger than the 4x4. That would be a good test:)

  • 13enXtract
    13enXtract 20 hours ago

You need to lathe the wood shaft to try and make it more balanced I feel like

  • Tj Miller
    Tj Miller 20 hours ago

Use a couple pieces of rebar it’ll end up twisting together it’ll look cool and if the welds are strong enough it shouldn’t break

There are two boat building channels you need to contact; Sampson Boat Co, & Acorn to Arabella. They will tell you to use live oak as the toughest wood and a lathe to perfect the shape. Boy, what you guys don't know about wood... 🤣

  • Cody Smith
    Cody Smith Day ago

Hell yeah brothers that was a great idea! I think if you took multiple pieces of plywood and glued them together to make a 4x4 it would be WAY stronger due to the alternating grain of the plywood. It might even handle a burnout. Maybe even wrap it in flex tape for extra stiffness. Bog deep and let 'er eat!

While you have that drive shaft cut in half you should definitely knew a video on replacing the drive shaft bearings I mean you clearly removed the bearing immediately after cutting it so you may as well show everybody how to replace it!

You should had use a baseball bat

Cap off two pieces of square tube, drill a hole in each cap, lag screw through it into an oak 4x4, weld the pipe/spline ends of the drive shaft to the caps, drive forever.
The square tube will use compression to turn the timber instead of direct force like a bolt running sideways through it.

  • Lake Hill Motors & Marine

You should use a "heartwood" post. That means the post was cut from the center of the tree and you can see the round tree rings complete circle in the end of the post. These pieces are stronger and should not split as easy. You can see in the video your post only has a section of the tree ring or grain on the end.
