Wealth of world's 10 richest men doubled in pandemic, Oxfam says - BBC News

  • Published on Jan 16, 2022
  • The Covid pandemic has made the world's wealthiest far richer but has led to more people living in poverty, according to the charity Oxfam.
Their report said lower incomes for the world's poorest contributed to the death of 21,000 people each day.
But the world's 10 richest men have more than doubled their collective fortunes since March 2020.
Oxfam's report is based on data from the Forbes Billionaires List and the annual Credit Suisse Global Wealth report, which gives the distribution of global wealth going back to 2000.

Higher interest rates actually creates new wealth. Zero interest rate doesnt create anything and below zero interest rates are in reality a wealth tax. Quantitative easing is what turns this whole situation completely upside down and pushes all monetary institutions to channel their money into stocks. But clearly in your great wisdom you already knew this. We are very fortunate to have people like you on this planet.

Even if they were taxed, it does not mean that the money would be used for public services. Whatever happened to the 350m promised on the infamous Brexit bus? Taxing the rich would only ensure that the money would be collected into the coffers of those countries of where they are resident or a citizen. Those that are wealthy and philanthropically distribute the wealth to locations around the world that really need it would likely lose out in some cases.
