@Buttercookie Cinnamini well I mean, I don't find any of the shows you mentioned to be that funny myself 😅 So most things aren't everyone's cup of tea, even if objectively good! Aaand well, I'll admit Friends aged poorly, but it's still a classic and I still enjoy The Take takes on it!

It’s not absurd or offensive to think that opposite sex friendships may end up romantic. The nature of romantic relationships is being with someone for a long time and that does lead to romances. It’s not a bad thing.
The friend zone is a bad thing though. It’s not good for someone to remain in a friendship if one has very strong feelings and the other does not.

I genuinely feel like Rachel and Ross are a terrible couple. Ross got so over the top manic, controlling and manipulative... He and Rachel never ended up having a healthy relationship as friends. Meanwhile, Rachel and Joey had a legitimate friendship based on mutual respect. They were different, but made each other better. I seriously feel like Rachel & Joey was the better pairing for the show's thesis.

they never fall for real in love to each other as simple as that! if Joey was a scientist or a musician than the chemistry of love would have been in place.. people to get together for life have to have passions and interests in common cause at the end of the day what you gonna chat with your wife? food for thought guys..

cross gender friendship are more like acquaintance relationship if anything. "Its cool to see you again, but i wont spend that much time with you if nothing is going on between us" not to mention, friends is purely fictional.

Thanx for defening platonic friendships, girls... I wish you could've started with Oscar Wilde's quote which problaly was the inspiration behind Harry's line of thought: "Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship." LuvU, bye, bye!!!

Ross was never a best friend to Rachel before their relationship. Neither was Chandler to Monica. For them it was like the relationship had not reached its potential, with the destination is being lovers. Phoebe and Joey however already have a perfect relationship.

My mom and dad were like this, I honestly believe they were platonic soulmates but they were so close people pressured them into making things romantic. Then I was born and 9 years late they divorced and hated each-other for years. They still have such well-matched senses of humour and I hope they completely mend their friendship one day.

  • PepperMo2626

I do understand their point, but I'm a diehard romantic. That, and I thought they were simply perfect for each other and would have made THE best couple out of all three, easily. I would love for the writers to have highlighted that at the end. I think they could have made it epic! Their chemistry was amazing and they were the TRUE soulmates out of the other couples. I love Phoebe and Mike together, but just not as awesome.

The actors of Pheobe and Joey actually wanted them to end up together or at least secretly been hooking up the whole time. But the writers thought it would have been too "unrealistic" that all the friends ended up together. But this couple would have been better than Ross and Rachel

  • Bruno'sBaBySquirrel
    Bruno'sBaBySquirrel 26 days ago

Maybe there are so many cases with the best-friends-turned-lovers trope, because everyone secretly wants their partner to be their best friend (not necessarily have their best friend be their partnerm, mind you). There is a level of understanding there. I personally think Joey and Phoebe made a lot more sense than Ross and Rachel. Ross and Rachel had no chemistry, no understanding, it just didn't fit, they should have stopped trying to beat that dead horse after the first break up. It would have been nice to see a reverse of the trope: lovers-turned-best-friends. (not even get me started on the monstrosity that was Joey and Rachel dating)

Romantic relationships ruin a friendship if you're bad at communicating or letting go.
I dated my roommate for 6 years and we still get along 6 months later.

    • Hiba M Khalbous
Hiba M Khalbous 25 days ago

I agree! It's not like I believe it's anyone's "fault" if communication is hard or if the friendship is just meant to be over, but people should definitely focus on maintaining the actual bond even if the feelings are difficult.

  • Jessica Strike

I like in the MCU how for the original 6 Avengers with 5 males and 1 female, Natasha had platonic relationships with 4 of the 5 men. Stark, Cap, Thor and obviously Hawkeye she loves them all as friends and they do for her too, but it’s only Bruce that gets the romantic angle. It was amazing to see such good platonic friendships develop across the films

  • Allison Holly
    Allison Holly 27 days ago

Nope, they wouldn’t have worked. There’s opposites and then there’s Joey and Phoebe. I can already hear the feminists now, but Phoebe needs a real man who will take care of her. Joey is a child. Phoebe would go nuts being in a relationship with Joey. Granted David wasn’t the manly man type I’m thinking about but he’s definitely able to take care of Phoebe in the way I’m thinking. Joey is just not the marrying type.

  • The Mad Hattress
The Mad Hattress 28 days ago

I've had it work out in both ways, honestly. I've had friendships in which pursuing a relationship and some sort of romantic interest ruined the friendship, but in others where it actually strengthened the friendship. I don't know how much gender played a part in it (the former being female and the latter being male), but genuine love and care for a friend can truly be the best thing in the world. You should still never try to engage your best friend in any romantic manner because of how risky it can be, but sometimes it just makes things better. Maybe it's a case by case basis, I don't know.

There's a small percentage of males that think being only a friend is somehow a failure on their part, hence the term "friendzoned". It's something to overcome rather than appreciate.

I ended up developing a crush on a friend of 5 years. I got too drunk at a party, talked too much and it got back to her. It never was the same after that. We aren't friends any more. I should have kept my mouth shut and appreciated what we had. I think about it every day. This was a very comprehensive look at something I have been pondering for years. Thank you.
