  • Presenting the new Sainsbury’s Christmas advert. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion. Inspired by real events from 100 years ago.
This year’s Christmas ad from Sainsbury’s - Christmas is for sharing. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion, it commemorates the extraordinary events of Christmas Day, 1914, when the guns fell silent and two armies met in no-man’s land, sharing gifts - and even playing football together.
The chocolate bar featured in the ad is on sale now at Sainsbury’s. All profits (50p per bar) will go to The Royal British Legion and will benefit our armed forces and their families, past and present.

This is one of those ads that you either love or you hate. It's difficult to give it a 'dislike' because of the sentiment that comes across but it is equally difficult to give it a 'like' because of all the death and suffering surrounding the story.

I'm a history addict, I've studied warfare over centuries in different countries - thr first world war was the worst of the lot though because it wasn't about freedom, or saving a race of people being wiped out by genocide for their religion, it wasn't about justice......WW1 was just the vanity of leaders and the bloodlust of generals. Power hungry individuals that never set foot on any of the battlefields and saw the men they sent to death as just cannon fodder to their own narcissistic vanity. I cried buckets when I saw this ad and I still do. See, I had 6 great uncles fight in WW1, only 1 came home and he was badly affected by mustard gas. Perhaps if the soldiers, especially those who were for this Christmas Day miracle as so many saw it, had been asked I'm sure THEY would've called it off and my nana wouldn't have had to lose 5 brothers; 2 at Ypres, 3 at the Somme.

This ad holds a very deep and profound message. We Europeans have fought and killed each other for thousands of years, often giving up the lives of our best men for the selfish, personal interests of the elite. All along, we never realised that we were brothers, misled into murdering one another. It's time for all Europeans to stand as the family we are, bound by blood and soil, and defend our beautiful continent from the immense threats it faces in this present day, both inside and out.

Better than any advert this year that just tries to advertise black men and white woman relationships instead of actually being focused on Christmas, Christianity, Jesus and so on.
