This is episode 2 in a series, in this show we go behind the scenes at Rivian. Episode 1, from earlier in 2019, was were we got our first look at their vehicles and their 'vital statistics' (thexvid.com/video/QMfxJEfb4lw/video.html). We hope that episode 3 will see us driving the R1S & R1T for the first time. In any event, these incredible vehicles will be at Fully Charged LIVE North America in February 2020: fullycharged.show/events/fully-charged-live-north-america/

How easy/difficult was it to get into Rivian to tour it, the vehicles, and interview? It is near my home town and I would love to work with/for them. Do you know if they're hiring?

Hello fullycharged , thank you again for this video, always very good. I have a question regarding the pack energy given in the video, Are they used energy or embedded one ? What is the average time to charge from 5 to 80% SOC starting from a 30degC initial temperature for the vehicle and the environment ? What is the autonomy using WLTP protocol and finally what is the expected battery life target for an average user ?

@David Birt Hey David, I'd be very surprised if we get a vehicle across to the 2020 UK Show; 2021 might be more feasible. We'd love to show it to an audience in the UK though. Thanks, Fully Charged Dan

Key success depends on sweet price. when iphone came if they priced it 1000 - 2000 dollar , no one would have bought it. price should be 5-10000 above Tesla model 3. Then you can kill your competition. if its 100k then they will only sell few cars in a year. soon chinese rivian clone everywhere selling 35k.... By then rivian will be dead. The guys who runs rivian swindle all the investment.

Still not sure on Front end and why the Truck has to be so boxy ? It has no real bumper, so the front end literally will turn into giant bug catcher and get pitted over time with debris.

I think elon knew he couldn't compete with them on a technical level, so he just said screw it I'll make a Lego car and win with hype

  • The Elemental Mystic

Hmmm ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you can charge the flashlight, why not split your battery pack in two and use similar charging to one auto split battery pack and thus use the other battery while charging another battery pack? No charging stations would ever be needed in this kind of configuration and besides all gas powered cars have an alternator to charge a battery and NOW some Camper Vans have 68 volt systems that charge similar eCars type of battery systems.

Isn't that more logical and wait!? What about those new Graphene Battery Technologies that actually only take a few minutes to charge... They can use that alternator to charge one of the split battery packs extremely quickly. An auto system would switch to the battery nat is charged while the other charges. The key is to get the proper distance settings in order to charge the other battery but with Graphene batteries this problem is irrelevant and makes the batteries even smaller by seven times. But that extra weight helps stabilize ads more center of gravity to vehicles and besides you can tow a much larger load or use more heat or air conditioning in any warm or cold climates. So I say keep those 2 battery pack big and you can use all that extras energy where you want it.

In northern colder regions you would also need a warming blanket type of covering on batteries so as not to let the extreme cold temperatures destroy the battery composition and that can be serious it’s its battery life expectancy. Ah alas those Graphene batteries can handle extreme cold and heat and last 20 years or more!?

The FUTURE looks bright and healthy indeed.

Not bold. Not innovative. Not cool. It still looks like a traditional pickup truck with that huge ugly front end that is just empty luggage space. Why??? Obviously, it is made for people who are afraid of change, by people who are afraid of changes that may offend the former. Tell you what, if you want a traditional-looking truck, just go buy a Ford 150. For me, I ordered 2 Cybertrucks the moment that I saw one.

It’s crazy how much Tesla effected the auto industry. Everyone here owe their wages and lifestyle to Tesla. Every single person here. On top of that, hearing this guy speaking is like that guy who has a class presentation identical to the guy before him. Everything that’s been said here has been said years ago. Word for word. I’m glad the industry is moving forward as a whole and I wish rivian great luck for the future. But give credit where it’s due
