I want to try making this, but I don't think I can fit four pans in my oven. Can I bake the sponge in two tins and cut them in half?

    • María Camila Serrano Melo
María Camila Serrano Melo 2 days ago

Thats not a good idea beacuse it would take longer to cook and the edges might become dry, its better to bake them one after the other, it would take more total time, but i think its better

Great job Dane! You are a great teacher and loved learning the tip of getting a straight edge container to wipe off excess buttercream...makes so much more sense than trying to wipe it on a piece of parchment paper or another bowl and also the finger placement on the cake comb (important details). Will definitely try this technique as it looks so beautiful. Thanks Jemma for your Tuesday tips!!! Please keep them coming.

Love these Tuesday Tips videos. I would never have thought of putting that little ledge at the top of each colour so you have a line for the next one to go against, it really does give you nice, clean stripes at the end.

As their usual, American buttercream. If it's Swiss meringue buttercream or other types, they'll mention it. 😁

What do you do with all the leftover scraped icing?

    • Cally Cakes
      Cally Cakes 26 days ago

You can collect the leftover frosting in a piping bag and use it to pipe a border around the top or the bottom of your cake!

Wonder what they do with the waste icing? There ought to be SOMETHING that you can do with it.

    • Vatsal Narang
Vatsal Narang 26 days ago +1

One thing you can do is make a very small cake or some cupcakes and pipe the leftover icing on them and gift it to people!(If you’re too concerned about the colour, u can add some white food coloring to the icing)

Alternatively you could make some cake pops, or do pastel marble icing on some cupcakes OR just go in with a spoon 🤤

    • CupcakeJemma
      CupcakeJemma  28 days ago +10

To get perfectly smooth buttercream there will always be a bit of excess that has to come off, which we factor in and is generally very minimal; we do our best at Crumbs to keep wastage to a minimum, and it’s something we’re constantly working on (if that means I have to eat the remaining icing then so be it 🤪)
