These repair quote videos done at/by dealerships using all OEM stuff are eyerolling-ly silly. It's like being surprised by a NASA quote to repair a Hyundai. No one in the real world does that shit. Obviously if you were to go to a dealer and order all the individual parts for a Kia Rio, it would cost you multiple tens of thousands of dollars more than buying a complete one in the showroom. Only spend money on absolutely required proprietary items, and get the rest used or aftermarket. I bet you could buy a few used complete donor cars for parts, and fix everything for less than this click bate-like video of a "repair bill".

You can get that repaired in waaay less than 11k £ !!! Still its expected for a 70k new car.

It's quite surprising how an expensive car like this was so neglected. To me Steve seems a knowledgable mechanic who knows this Mercedes. Guys like him are hard to find. The cheapest repairs can become the most expensive ones. That's why I would not take the risk with some Eastern European repair shop. Of course, it has to be accepted that Steve charges more. Let's assume now that he did all these repairs and a body shop fixed the rust. The total cost including the initial £900 would then be around £12,000. Now you would have a car that looks like new and drives like new. If you kept it for 5 years, you would have spent £2,400 per year. Does not appear outlandish to me for a car of this caliber.

11,000 from a Mercedes approved garage if you were a trained mechanic yourself you get it fixed a lot cheaper.

That mechanic was way overpriced. I mean you could buy another Mercedes for $1000 and use good parts from that onto this one. Jeesh.

    Jeez, waddabunchawooftas!

Eleven grand was the worst case scenario, I'd pay them to do the welding, the rest is easily fixed yourself:
radiator shroud - drill and tap new hole: job done
oil leaks - clean up & silastic: job done
headlights - sand down/polish/seal with silastic: job done
exhaust - who gives a rats: job done
suspension - disassemble, clean, replace dodgy bearings or replace strut if really needed: job done
mirrors - glass was good, fix shell or replace from scrapyard: job done
window winder - try to fix self, if not scrapyard: job done
dodgy coil/plug lead - scrapyard: job done

....with money left over from my one grand budget I'd get the body rust fixed.

    Easy as!

You said it had 12 months MoT? Leave it alone then. That wasn't a repair bill, that was a restoration bill.

now you all know where not to go to repair a Mercedes.
You wil probably pay 2500-3000k in normal garage wit e bay parts.
And for all who need a proper repair please visit a AutoMax Swindon garage and say bye bye to Stevensons rip off garage ;)

It's a nice cruiser to go only on a Saturday to the bar or else drive to the junkyard. Mercedes is a bad quality car for 80k. To fix this car with 4 new doors and a respray that cost you 15k.

11,000 pounds for fully restore and 1000p, buy = 12000-13000 pounds.. seems very descent price for this model (even it's old)
Try to change the hybrid battery on a toyota or even worse change the battery of an electric car. 5000 to 8000pounds for sure.
I thing the price if fine so the car too....

You certainly can buy non - OEM parts which can also be quality parts so the repair can be probably 1/2 price. However, this is Mercedes specialist, therefore the repair cannot be cheap. This is to tell you to think twice before buying such a car.

Think about how many years it was driven on borrowed time. If the previous owner(s) had kept up with maintenance and wear as needed the car would be worth what it now needs put into it.

the repairs would cost 11 Thousand,
and he bought it for a grand.
