lived south side of Milwaukee say many C&NW TRSINS
Saw the pair sitting on a siding on the Metro North Line between Olympia Fields and Chicago about 4 years ago. Was in the train so I could not get a good shot of them, Good to see a few still hanging around for RR Heritage. Subbing to you if you could sub back to my channel
Great video and catch!
Sweet catch. Love the old warriors. Question: Where does one find the "notes" on these locos referred to by posters here?
Great catch and video.
Nice CNW 8701
8701 has a bad axel and also is going in for a new engine from what I herd. Not getting retired, not getting repainted. You don't have to worry about it. And maybe for future reference, get all the details before you say something about it.
Don't believe everything you hear. They're UP units now.
The two units left the IRM I think yesterday or the day before. They'll be working Proviso for a bit. They'll be sent to the UP shops for rebuilding and fresh CNW paint. Many have said it was the end of the twins but that was confirmed as a false rumor.
yep, they are getting new number boards to match what CNW had and are also getting a fresh coat of CNW paint!
8701 and 8646 show stored at Union IL...
@UnionPacific1995 Yep, did some work on it in Ft. Worth and it's going to North Platte for some more work soon.
already back on trains in my area!
+UnionPacific1995 Hopefully they will still use it a few more times!!
+844Train that's for sure! But from my knowledge they are supposed to be going to the Illinois railway museum ounce they finish there time on the UP.
Both of the CNW twins have notes on them saying to not repaint or patch them. If something is wrong with the unit they won't be repainted or patched thankfully.
They should honestly go to IRM (Illinois Railway Museum) It is a large museum, and has plenty of other CNW engines. I'm not promoting that they should be scrapped or abandoned, i'm just saying, they might be in good hands with IRM. IRM takes good care of the engines and cars they do have, and they should still be able to run.
@844Train I sadly have to agree with you on that. Hopefully UP will keep them on their roster for just a little while longer.
+Texas Railfan Yeah, they do have that note, but with the units being 21 years old and all the new units coming out UP doesn't need these running around anymore. Seems their days may be spent in a museum pretty soon.
What a long and awesome catch you got there!
Очень хороший видео ролик. КЛАСС.
UP is already retiring their Dash 9's? God, that sucks. I heard that they would be donating the 2 CNW units to some museum and they would not receive any patch or repaint during the meantime.
Holy cow!!!! Fantastic catch dude!!
What are they doing with it if its one of its last times?
They are being stored at Union while IRM does touch ups to their paint jobs.
@railroadpics _ Not really suprised, with all the new locomotive orders they aren't needed on the roster. They have had the storage notes for a while (4-5 months) now it seems their days are done for good.
Oh that would be amazing....but man they were retired they were retired young...Just consider it...in the 1994 these were considered to be the future....
@railroadpics _ Yep, might be going to IRM sometime soon.
Ok. UP Trace confirms they arrived at 7:23 PM today.
