Blowing more moist air at it is probably making it worst. Isolate the air around the cpu and once all the moisture condensed out, you get no more liquid.

What if you put the motherboard upsidedown so the condensation can free fall down?

  • Rob Rogers

I know you guys probably figured this out by now, but if you just coat the motherboard with something a di-electric hydrophobic solution like vasoline you can keep condensation from forming.

I love the fact you used an aquarium water chiller for cooling - I had to buy one to chill a 40g aquarium for my daughter's pet Axolotl (it's 1/2hp though since I got it used) and it's a heck of a lot more noisy than that one.

You could to a centralized water cooling with this. Lay some insulated(!) copper piping around the house, fill the system with a water glycol mixture (like in those solar water heaters that go on the roof), and connect each pc to the cycle. YAY!

Linus, if you want ready built liquid chillers for subzero temps just do a search for "laser chiller" (on aliexpress even). Comes in all shapes and sizes and rated for industrial usage 24/7. These are units that can dissipate thousands of watts :).

They also have built-in pumps and resovoirs. They lift liquid up above the ceiling and monitor flow, pressure, stable temperature with HID etc.

Plate heat exchanger ? What if there was a water to water plate heat exchanger in between the pc and the chiller. 3 loops 1st loop chiller to large reservoir to act as the heat dump. 2nd loop reservoir to plate heat exchanger. 3rd loop heat exchanger to pc components. No radiators or fans needed in the pc. Flow rates and liquid temps would need to be monitored and adjusted to keep the 3rd loop at just above ambient with the 2nd colder loop removing the heat. This would and eliminate the risk of condensation on the pc components. With some fine tuning, I think this could work. You could even run another loop with insulated pipes from the reservoir to a radiator with fans to cool the room.

Note to anyone doing sub-ambient cooling: airflow is a no-no. Unless you have really dry air in your room, all extra air hitting the motherboard will carry water to it and it will condense.
