    --
Motion capture and live action are blended for “Mowgli,” a new, big-screen, 3D adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book. The film features an impressive roster of stars under the direction of Andy Serkis.
The story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli, raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger Shere Khan. But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins.
The actors performing the roles of the story’s central animal characters are: Oscar winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter,” the “Dark Knight” Trilogy) as the cunning panther, Bagheera; Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine,” “The Aviator”) as the sinister snake, Kaa; Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Imitation Game,” “Avengers: Infinity War”) as the fearsome tiger, Shere Khan; Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (“Moonlight,” “Skyfall”) as Nisha, the female wolf, who adopts the baby Mowgli as one of her cubs; and Andy Serkis (the “Planet of the Apes” trilogy, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”) as the wise bear, Baloo. On the human side, Matthew Rhys (“The Post”) is Lockwood; Freida Pinto (“Knight of Cups”) is Messua; and young actor Rohan Chand (“The Hundred-Foot Journey,” “Bad Words”) will play Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves.
Rounding out the cast are Peter Mullan (“Tommy’s Honour”), as the leader of the wolf pack, Akela; Jack Reynor (“Transformers: Age of Extinction”), as Mowgli’s brother Wolf; Eddie Marsan (TV’s “Ray Donovan”), as Nisha’s mate, Vihaan; and Tom Hollander (“Breathe”) as the scavenging hyena, Tabaqui.
“Mowgli” is produced by Steve Kloves (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”), Jonathan Cavendish (“Breathe,” performance capture producer on “Godzilla”), and David Barron (the “Harry Potter” films), with Nikki Penny serving as executive producer. The screenplay is by Kloves’ daughter, Callie Kloves.
Serkis’s creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Michael Seresin (“War for the Planet of the Apes”), production designer Gary Freeman (“Tomb Raider”) and editors Mark Sanger (Oscar winner, “Gravity”), Alex Marquez (“Snowden”) and Jeremiah O’Driscoll (“Flight”). The music is composed by Nitin Sawhney (“Breathe”).

Reading all these comments from people who don't know what the deal with this film is supposed to be, complaining why'd they make another one so soon after the Disney-remake, makes me feel bad for Andy Serkis.
He is a fan of the Junglebook-novel and from what I've heard this film is something of a passion-project for him. Plus when you get down to it, it really is the first actual live-action adaption instead of a reimagining of the original story (only other film-adaption I know of is a russian animation from 1960s).
It's a bit disheartening how many people only see it as just another cashgrab and a dick measuring contest between Disney and Warner Brothers.

While I'm glad that this version will taking more elements to the original book. But is it just me, or is the CGI for the animal cast bad in comparison to ones the 2016 film? The ones in the 2016 film look, feel, and breath like real animals while these ones in here seem a little off.

I don’t really mind this. I mean Disney’s rarely even close to the source materials of their adaptations. Heck, I once heard from when the Disney animated film of The Jungle Book was in progress of being made that Walt Disney himself told a couple of his workers “I don’t ever want you read the book” even after his passing the year before it was released, the Disney company has been no more different when it comes to adaptations, worse for those where Disney secures the rights to sources all the way through where there can’t be other kids of adaptations).
So it’s to have a different version in mind where it could appeal to those looking forward to something close to the source.
Hope it doesn’t turn out bad.

This one and 2016 Disney-remake are two completely different things that unfortunately happened to be made at almost exactly same time; the only reason there even is two year-gap between them, is because the Disney-remake basically forced them to push this one back.
This is actually the first live-action adaption that follows the story of the original novel, so it's gonna be a completely different animal from the Disney-versions.

Possibly spoilers for this one if it is like the book. Mowgli found the wolves bageera didnt find him, kaa wasn't a bad guy, baloo was the strict one and bageera was the fun one, mowgli found his parents in the village but it was corrupted so the jungle destroyed it but not his parents, mowgli killed shere kahn and danced on his hide, and eventually left the jungle and got a family. And lastly his name was meant to be prounced to rhyme with cow-glee (not like the way Disney pronounces it)

    Disney Headquarters 1 Year Ago...
CEO: So, those CGI assets from Jungle Book cost us a boat load of money, any ideas of how to stretch their value a few hundred million dollars further?
Storyboard Director: Well, if we look at the performance of our non-canonical sequels, we can see that dark, brooding spinoffs that are set several years later, centre around the less-interesting main protagonist rather than the more-interesting side characters, and revolve around the previous antagonist returning haven't really worked out. For example, Alice in Wonderland. What about we try something new, like a fun, light-hearted follow-up story that centres around Baloo, one of the most memorable characters in the franchise?
    CEO: ...

    Dark and brooding, you say?
