Hey everyone, thanks for watching! There's a recipe video coming for the final version, but if you'd like to make it now, here's the recipe:
    Tofu Turkey
    Servings: 6
    1 14-ounce block extra-firm tofu
    ¾ cup pinto beans
    6 tablespoons nutritional yeast
    ¼ cup soy sauce
    1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
    3 cloves garlic, chopped
    ½ teaspoon kosher salt
    1 teaspoon pepper
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    1 cup low-sodium vegetable broth
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    2½ cups vital wheat gluten
    ½ cup vegan stuffing
    Gravy, for serving
    Special Equipment
    2 wooden skewers
    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. Soak the wooden skewers in water to prevent them from burning when baking.
    3. Crumble the tofu into a medium bowl lined with a dish towel. Gather the sides of the dish towel and squeeze out as much liquid as possible from the tofu.
    4. To a food processor, add the pinto beans, drained tofu, nutritional yeast, soy sauce, poultry seasoning, garlic, salt, pepper, onion powder, and vegetable broth and puree until smooth. With the processor running, pour in the olive oil and continue blending until incorporated.
    5. Add the vital wheat gluten to a large bowl, add the mixture from the food processor, and stir until the dough comes together enough that it can be kneaded. Knead for 1-2 minutes, until most of the cracks have disappeared, then turn out onto a clean surface and shape into a ball. Cut off about ¼ of the dough with a bench scraper and set aside.
    6. Transfer the remaining dough to a small glass bowl. Using your hands, form a hole in the center and evenly stretch the edges to help it expand to about 3-4 inches in diameter.
    7. Scoop the stuffing into the well, then stretch the sides of the dough over the stuffing to encase completely.
    8. Wrap the tofu turkey in parchment paper, then in foil.
    9. Divide the reserved dough in half and shape into 2 drumsticks. Insert a wooden skewer in each one. Wrap the drumsticks in parchment paper, then foil.
    10. Set the tofu turkey and drumsticks on a baking sheet and bake for 1 hour, flipping every 20 minutes. Remove the drumsticks after 40 minutes.
    11. Serve with gravy.
    12. Enjoy!

You gotta add mushroom gravy!! it's a vegan game changer; just mushrooms, flour, veggie broth, soy sauce, and seasoning to taste :)

Literally the problem with this is that they’re basing their vegan turkey off of tofurkey... and not morning star or gardein (both substantially better than tofurkey in terms of taste and texture)

Being a non-vegan, I prefer actual turkey over tofu or Tofurkey. I don’t even like the taste of tofu, I’d rather have paneer(an Indian cheese).

the trick to making tofurkey roast is basting it with some sage, stock and soy sauce as its cooking just like a regular turkey, basting keeps it juicy and gives more flavor and the crust forms a lot crisper. the directions on the package are fail

Some people are confused as to why would vegans like to mimic meat-based foods instead of just eating fruits and vegetables all the time.
Well, vegans become vegans because they want to protest against animal cruelty in animal produce, not just because they like the taste of fruits and vegetables.
And on holidays like thanksgiving and christmas, turkey is a staple food, so of course vegans would also like to enjoy in on the tradition with a meatless alternative.
Vegans are not hurting anyone, so why the hate?
    -sincerely, a meat-eater

Honestly I'm tired of seeing thumbnails of "weird" or "grossed out" faces when it comes to non-vegan channels making vegan food! Vegan food can be VERY delicious, but more importantly veganism is the way of the future... the earth, our health, and the billions of innocent animals suffering for the sake of a select few products is so ridiculous and outdated. I'm glad more and more veg content is being made but stop acting like it's so strange.

On this clip, it's obvious that alot of food was wasted because she was trying to recreate a turkey that taste like crap. I think it's ridiculous for someone who is against of animal-derived ingredients to make something like that. How about reversing the idea of recreating a piece of fruit or vegetable with meat? Everybody can enjoy how to cook and serve their food, such as fresh produce for vegans, sustainable meat farming for meat eaters or nut-milk as a substitute for lactose intorelant people. At the end, Veganism is clearly an option but lactose intorelance is a digestive disorder, they are not comparable.

She should've tried the freeze method. It's where you drain the tofu and then freeze it overnight. It gives the tofu a meaty texture and dry enough to soak up flavour.

So, I don't care too much if they take similar ideas to Bon Appetite (even though it's a bit obvious they're trying to recreate Gourmet Makes), because no one owns the idea of recreating food. My problem with Tasty (actually a problem I've had with them for a while compared to Bon Appetite), is that you don't really learn anything. Almost every video is just watching people with an "awkward and quirky" personality try to make food. And I don't doubt they're knowledgeable about cooking at all, they have this job because they really can cook after all. But something about the presentation feels a little forced. "Lets get young quirky millenials so we can attract similar young quirky millenials", is how it's felt to me. Bon Appetite isnt just entertaining, because of people like Claire, Brad, Chris, Carla, etc. but it's actually informative and in depth. They act professionally and take you through their process, and it's actually interesting. I often remember their videos and apply what ive learned when I try to cook myself. I remember nothing from Tasty videos when it comes to cooking, with the exception of videos from Amanda or Rie, where they actually do seem to talk about their process, give tips on making something, or compare foods made from Tasty's multiple chefs. Those Tasty videos are great, and I'd love more things like that from Tasty. Their vegan channel Goodful, is also great. With videos like this though, or videos of trying to make something in a giant form, it gets old and you can kind of see through it. With Bon Appetite videos in general and Gourmet Makes, the food and the information comes first and the personalities and the fun the chefs end up having are just a great bonus when it comes to watching Bon Appetite videos. With Tasty it seems more about the idea of getting a cute and funny girl, or a cute and funny guy to watch them stumble and make "awkward" jokes while making food, because that's what they think is "so relatable". I mean, I clicked on this video because I did think it would be informative, but instead its just a girl struggling with Tofu for 10 minutes. I like both Tasty and Bon Appetite, but Tasty could be so great if they put more of the quality content that we know they can make, content that I can actually learn from and have fun watching, instead them filming a video seemingly inspired BA's success with this idea (which again is fine), without seemingly getting the point of the why the BA series is so interesting to watch in the first place.

I totally understand this is for vegan or vegetarian people, but I personally feel real poultry meat is far healthier than all that wheat gluten and stuffs, every other ingredient is still fine thou! I could be wrong .. Also if vegans have in fact chosen that lifestyle, I don’t think they want a “pretend” bird on their plate, thats the whole point right ??????

You have to knead that loaf o' gluten to get the texture. About 10-15 minutes kneading. Really. That will help with the sponginess. Just like with bread dough. Regarding the comments about vegepeople eating meat-like foods. Its is great way to transition to meatless or when you just need a little bit of chew. I too have held firm on the idea to not try meatish foods if you are meatless. But I have tasted some meatless entrees (Gardein, Quorn, Field Road, Miyoke Skinner's cheeses) that are fab. There are more vegan products out there that taste just odd, though. So, better to learn to cook meatless and have a nice seitan load every now and then.
