You should cut a water jet in half with a water jet being cut in half by a water jet being crushed by a mechanical press being shot out of a compressed air cannon into a cinderblocks then ran over by a humvee

There could be a chance that this is a diamond. But the chance is low. I study geology and i think this is a mineral called Olivine (the color of the mineral is normally green so i'm not sure). This mineral is most likely to be found in most Mafic Basalt. Most Basalt contain the minerals: Plagioclase-feldspar, Pyroxene, Olivine, Amphibole and very little Mica minerals like Biotite. :)

70% of the comment under here say "oh my god you should take it back you're cursed now"
pretty sure they know by now
pretty sure they don't care either(especially after 3 months)
now if one wants to say it's illegal in the truest sense, like taking away pink sand or corals from the spiaggia rosa in italy, then ok, but i doubt they(or most people who aren't superstitious and don't live in hawaii) care about the fac it's supposed to be cursed.

It is illegal to take lava rocks for any reason. Hawaii used to allow it by permit for commercial purposes, but this law was revised in 2018 and that is no longer permitted either.
I don't know what the legality is of accepting stolen lava rocks so I would consider returning it to Hawaiian authorities as a show of good faith, but what evs...up to you.

With all of these superstitious nuts... IT kind of makes me want to make my own illegal lava rock trade. $25/lbs on ebay. Also if by their logic taking one rock is bad, taking hundreds should have me killed in say, 30 days? Also which luck runs out first? The bad Juju from taking rocks vs. The luck of the Irish? We need a science experiment on this one guys.

  • Alexis Filigree

Considering that the average water jet cutter has no issues with objects up to Moh's hardness 8, the crystal has to be at least Topaz (8) or harder (Corundum 9, Diamond 10). It could be a white sapphire...but considering how common diamonds are below the surface level of the earth's crust, it could well be a diamond. Peridot and garnet are the most common gems in the mantle (with something in the neighborhood of 60% of the mantle being made of micro-crystalline peridot and pyroxene crystals together in a formation called peridotite...and garnet is extraordinarily similar to peridot in chemical structure), but garnet ranges between 6.5 and 7.5 on the mohs scale (although it can be found in a "white clear" formation that looks similar to most diamonds colorwise) and would have been severely damaged/destroyed by the jet. Basically, all things considered, my bet would be on either diamond (all carbon), or corundum (aluminum oxide). The easiest way to test would be to get a cheap sample of raw corundum for a couple of bucks on eBay, and attempt to scratch the corundum with this crystal. If it scratches, odds are very good that it is a diamond.

Tbh it formed in mid air and diamonds need heat and pressure to form so it's not likely to be one unless it came out with the lava

I see you putting you hands around that water jet cutter and it makes my skin crawl.
The other week I had to do some first aid on someone who decided it was ok to do something similar. There was a deflection and it pierced his finger (not a clean hole either) and delaminated his finger nail.
    Ever had any similar injuries?

So, you have a rock from Hawaii that is illegal to remove from the island and needs to be sent back with or without believing in superstitions surrounding them. Also, giving away an item that is illegal to have in the first place is not very smart.

Curses? 2018 and that's still a thing? I've broken several mirrors, opened umbrellas intentionally in buildings, walked under ladders, crossed black cats, drove drunk, and split poles with family.
You know what I like about superstitions? Can't prove they exist. "Can't disprove them either" one would say. But, the burden of proof is for the indoctrinated quack to prove without failure. A bunch of "bad things happen" is not proof at all. A bunch of stories is not proof. A law that states not to do such a thing... Now that's horror!

One time, I was fighting little green men.
Apparently they were super strong - One of them jumped on me and exploded.
But before that, I found a cool rock I picked up from some creepy cave.
The Placebo effect made the explosion hurt way more than it actually did, *And* made me send back the rock to the cave because I got attacked by little green suicide bomber dudes.
