You need more on this channel
The propane tank is fine on it's side, just angle the side with the valve upwards so that when the tank begins to empty you don't lose pressure.
I'm gonna be honest came from your main channel just to see if this would be something I like and I can honestly say there's something really relaxing about the process
“ that crease disappeared completely “ and then came right back lol
Should have edited in an explosion when you first started to cut the propane tank lulzzz
Yer to critical on yourself
Just worried about sideways stability
Hey guy, that awesome the way build that forge there. Why didn't you put a shelves on each side 4 A oil bath in a water bath on the bottom sides. To temper the metal? Something to think about? But great job.
Dan you can use motor oil to quench instead of canola oil
8:48 still a little hot there Dan? 😂😂
How much would you sell a wrench for?
Oh noice haw am I just now discovering this channel
9:33. Dan uses a propane torch to forge steel hook,Forge: am I a joke to you
To heat the oil just take a hot rod and trow it in there that will worm it up good
wow a not do it with dan dan video in my recommendations i dont even watch you that much and youtube is like hey these 2 people are pretty simular
Hey Dan, how's it going? Love kickin back and watching a couple of your episodes. Regarding the welding, you've mentioned ways to weld a couple of times, but I would love to see a video about first time (mig) welder tips. Like settings with different metal types and thicknesses. Being a beginner myself, it would help me a lot! I know there are a lot of videos about it, but you have a very easy way of explaining things! Cheers, Steve from Holland
I’m waiting for Welding a Welder to a Welder
USING A PROPANE TANK AS A QUENCH IS PRETY SMART
On the next DanMade.. Making a stand for the quench tank! Love the new forge setup Dan! Love you Dan
Whoa making knives I'm glad this popped up on my feed keep it up dan
The handle idea for the quench tank was great. :D
Dan just asking idk if it'll work or not but could you get some shitty welding mask and put it over your camera so we could see better when you're welding
How fast do you go through a propane tank?
Great build keep at it ! Glad you had a good Christmas :-) looks like you where a good boy this year lol
If there is a problem with propain tanks on there sides then every propain forklift is in trouble.
Not sure if this has been mentioned but you can use a piece of scrap steal like mild steel to heat your quench oil. Just get it really hot dunk it in and it will heat the oil while you bring your good piece up to temp.
I work for Lowe's, can I commission a kobalt hatchet or knife?
You really missed the opportunity to edit in an explosion @15:30
Now that's a forged cam, amirite? anybody? no.. just me then.
I built a forge back in highschool but I wasn't able to bring it home... Now I really want to get into this as another hobby that I don't need.
Dan make a butterfly knife with a tanto blade
Love this Dan. Reminds me of the DIWD vids but with more metal
Hey dan just a quick suggestion I’ve welded for a couple years and when being taught to weld by my instructor I was taught to push wire mig welding bc there is no slag/protective coating and I personally find it easier to lay nice consistent straight beads down just a suggestion though the way your doing it is fine just figured I’d give you a little insight
Sometimes I push, sometimes I pull. Depends on the angle, comfort, and what I'm doing. For frames and cages and such, I'll push. But for something like a little cart, I won't even bother thinking about it.
As of 1/3/18 at 2346 hours To that one guy that disliked... fuck you
Hey what song was playing after he figured out what was wrong with his welds? I really like it, should list music in the description
Would love to know the song as well!
Commenting at only the 9:00 mark, so maybe it gets addressed later, but I think you're gonna want tome weight in the bottom, wether it is scrap steel storage or tank mounting
Dan if you ever read this comment (which you probably won't) I just wanted to let you know that your TheXvid channels have helped me through a lot in life when I can just go on there and laugh my ass off. Thanks for the hard work and keep it coming!
I appreciate you!
Hope everyone has a good day🏍
Yo Danny boi. I really need you to quit doing cool shit. I’m going to go broke trying all the shit you show me.
very blacksmithy thing to do but i would have gone ahead and just used a chopsaw or even an angle grinder then welded them together. and it still would have made a great video.
Dan, can u out the price for the things u make in the description cuz every time I go to your Etsy page all it tells me is “this item has been sold” but no price, all I wanna know is how much the stuff went for
just saw the title and thought this could be good video idea thexvid.com/video/xv9nnEhgfuY/video.html
or something cool to try
You're the next Alec Steele👌💪👍🇺🇸
The propane tank on a forklift is mounted sideways. So you should be just fine.
running propane tanks on their side is perfectly fine...forklifts use them side ways all the time
Push your weld puddle instead of pulling it. Better penetration!
You should collab with Alec Steele
if collab you mean take lessons?
Welding on top of a cardboard box 🧐 I’m calling OSHA
If I send you a snap on wrench will you make a knife?
Good job Dan!
Great dan made a rolling bomb
Watching you weld is getting me excited. I'm signed up for a welding class, starts next week!
Zero were given while forging that jig. Btw Dan if you read this, you should put the propane tank vertically up... don't hang it on its side
Firstly, cool forge! And very cool knife shape!!!!! Re gas bottles on their side....... it all depends if the item using the gas can run off liquid propane. I'm not 100% sure how it all works, but if you have the bottle on it's side, or upside down, you will have propane coming out in a more liquid form then a gas (I'm going on info from some other blacksmiths on TheXvid. Black Bear Forge has spoken about it a few times, I can't remember who else). Most forge burners will die prematurely if liquid gas is put through them, so it's safer to keep the bottles upright. I would suggest removing the X braising, on the stand, and putting a couple of short cross pieces at the bottom of the legs with a platform running front to back for a gas bottle to sit on. It would also add some stability to the stand due to the weight of the bottle sitting on the bottom instead of hanging from near the top.I hope this all helps 😊👍👍👍
Dan that knife looks sick dude
forging a forgingstand for my forge with my forge so I can forge while I stand
DBMoto underrated comment
Keep up the forging videos man I love them, how much do you think it would cost to start forging? I’ve been thinking about it for a while now because it’s always interested me but I don’t know exactly what I would need or anything like that
Jet fuel can't melt steel beams.
hey dan i think u can use a scrap piece of metal to Heat up in the Forge and get it hot and then stir the oil with it to warm the oil up
I wouldn't recommend storing your tanks like that but it'll be fine while in use
You should make a knife out of a lawn mower blade
this is awesome dan!
you gotta get your metal hotter for a forge weld its gotta be close to melting
leaving a tank on its side can lead to very slow leaks over time ..... jk I don't know shit
Blade looks good Dan. It's best to not lay fuel tanks on their side for prolonged periods of time due to the gas/fuel is stored under pressure as a liquid.
You don't need flux but from what I've researched it helps as it washes the scale and oils out of what your forge welding
love the channel Dan not gonna give you any advice since everyone in comment sections know everything about everything keep up the good work
My first forge was a pro pain tank that I cut the top off of and burned wood in with a small whole at the bottom for an air compressor
powerade or Gatorade?
Powerade. Less sodium and more electrolytes. Gatorade if you aren't careful can clog your system up.
Why not use old motor oil for quenching? Thought that was the oil of choice for that. Plus it makes use of old oil from oil changes n shit.
In the next couple months there’s gonna be some random subs on this channel asking for dan to talk about the bikes in a video having no clue about the whole DIWD channel
Cant wait for that moment lol
Dan you need to coat the kaolwool on your forge with rrfractory cement
I'll overlook the safety-trolling, but did you seriously say "Bazinga"? Shame on you, sir.
Is it just me or does this guy look and sound exactly like doitwithdan?
Dan I wish I was closer to you. I honestly wish I could teach you some small things about mig welding that could help out tremendously. I'm not saying your not a decent welder I've seen allot worse. Like really bad. All coming from someone who takes allot of pride in every weld I put down and that is the main reason why I get paid to do it
man i wanna save up some money and get into forging looks fun as fuck
Be careful welding on your garage floor, Daniel. You can heat up the concrete enough to make it explode.
Change the channel name to Forge it with Dan.
8:00 Dan is always on Grindr
Well done. No dislikes.
Mr do it with Dan I’ve watch ur videos for a while ur awesome so please I am begging u make a big ass forge look at the one Alec Steele made there’s a bunch of walkthroughs please make a better one by hand u can do a lot more cool shit than with the tiny one 👍
sounds like a bad quench imo . I would heat up the knife and let it air cool. that let's the grain kind of cool down the way it wants to rather than quenching it which will add more stress on the blade. then heat it back up and quench it when the knife is NOT magnetic. Don't wanna give Justin a knife that's gonna break the first time he uses it. also might want to add something that stops your hand from slipping up the blade and cutting your fingers off.
WOooooo 224 like and no dislikes
What kind of anvil is that
I really dig this content
Nice welds braaaaaa
Dan for forged in fire
jus A dood yesss!
Dan, you could also heat up the quench oil by heating up some scrap metal the same time as your piece. (Heat and shove!)
do a video with alec steele
“Alright, I really messed this thing up” Dan your the best😂😂😂
"Inserts constructive criticism"
Propane can go on its side i swear old fork lifts have it on the side
Different kind of tank on a forklift. They are specially made to lay on their side.
too tall i a fork lift with tank of propane on its side it was on the back of the forklift
On the back and turned over never hurts a thing
The Legion sometimes on the back
The problem the tomahawk u tried to make was the Chinese steel
Hey dan pvc pipes can make good quenching containers useing alot less oil and skinier to make for longer knives if you can understand what im saying
I've heard PVC is terrible for quenching since it melts easy.
Best looking knif you've made yet. Good work your really improving.👍👍👏👏👏
