The craziness of this is having a punch that fast IN WATER. Overcoming the drag coefficient on movement in water and still hitting fast enough to create air pockets is insane.
Calamar: “Stop punching me. Ok. Take it. It grows back anyway.”
Here's another fact about the mantis shrimp: It's punch is strong enough to break glass. You should probably think twice before putting one in an aquarium.

you know a creature is tough when his enemies literally hand them pieces of their flesh to get away
The spearer mantis shrimp is basically a praying mantis that can swim, breathe under water, has a tougher outer shell, lives in a burrow, has an under-hooked raptoral claw, and will only eat seafood.
I like the idea of some random shrimp running around the ocean beating the shit out of everything
"Who are you?"
"little psycho bastards" seems a pretty accurate description
""The mantis shrimp can deliver a blow with 1500 Newtons of force, which tells you what a sissy punch Newton must have had."
The way I heard it described is, if a human could punch that hard, our hand would
"if you're afraid of clowns, stay afraid"
"Even the octopus, who is quite the badass, can't deal with these little psycho bastards"
This is one of my favorite videos of all time. After finding multiple fish dead in our tank for no reason, we were examining our tank one day...when suddenly, one of these psycho bastards lurched out of the sand with supersonic speed. It terrified me and my brother, we both jumped back like "OH GOD! What was that?!!??" This guy had apparently been hiding in a rock we bought for the tank and we had NO clue it was just waiting there to kill off half our fish. "What the hell man...leave the crab alone.", "which is why it dresses like an idiot.", "Wait...did that guy just hand him his own arm? That's cray-zyyy". HAHA! This is the best <3
"The story of the Hermit Crab and the Mantis Shrimp" must be a German fairy tale
“The smasher mantis shrimp come with little Edward-Bowling-Ball hands”
The shrimp dragging out the hermit must've felt like a horror movie to all hermit crabs
I want a complimation of how all animals “do”
Imagine a color you can't even imagine, now imagine that 9 more times
When I was a little kid, I had a book on sea creatures, including mantis shrimp. I legit got nightmares about mantis shrimp. I can't remember the specifics anymore, but I remember I was terrified. I also saw one documentary on rockfish and was then scared to take a bath for like 3 months because 'there might be a rockfish in the tub'. Needless to say, I had a very low scare threshold.
