Thanks for watching! Please check out the other contestants and host. This has been a fun experience so far and I look forward to more.
The Ultimate Game Jam is a 3 round game development competition. In addition to making a game, each contestant creates a devlog to show their process.

I think it's really awesome that you managed to finish the round despite all the struggles.
And the game have improved a lot compared to the first round :D
Or should I say, sadly, because this intensified the competition a lot 😁
Just downloaded and played, man this game is absolutely and unambigiously really fun. I think it is even more fun when trying to complete levels as quickly as possible like speedrunning- amazing job with this. I would love an in game timer, and if you (possibly for a boss) had to intentionally trap opponents or make them fall through destroying the ground.
"Oh no... I'm now future me." That's a great one.
This comment is so punchable
Glad to see this devlog! I was looking forward to it.
green
Omg benbok watches this yt channel
I have joined your gamejam
Speaking of devlog WHEN'S THE NEXT SLIMEKEEP VIDEO?
@Marc Boss hello
Goddamn man, I really like your game! Don’t give up, game dev isn’t that easy but the results are just super motivating to continue!
Really good Devlog! Glad I was able to be witnessing this on the streams! Good Work!
Cool game
When it comes to MWG
Make sure to add more weapons & in addition to those already existing weapons each map have a specific weapon for it self
That will help giving more variety of some sort
Love your work 👏👏👏
Have been wanting to get into coding. You make it look so interesting and the fact that you made this in such a quick time is just inspiring!! Love your creativity!
This is construct 3
@Robert Butchko this is definitely not unity...
@Leon it's in unity right? I think the amount of c# you need to use qualifies it as coding.
I wouldn't call this coding, it's definitely programming tho
Great devlog! Thanks for sharing the ups and downs, makes it that much more relatable.
Cool beans xD Although the mechanic was money this time around, my favorite improvement is in doing new levels/maps. It seemed pretty high stress, but I think the changes were for the better! Good luck in round 3 ;D
Woohoo! I’ve been waiting for round two for what feels like forever.
Amazing! You are an incredible game dev, keep up the work!
Nice video production! Was really entertaining :)
you came up with a really unusual and interesting gameplay, I would also work on the design of the environment and characters, but damn it is a game jam and there is very little time. You're doing fine
I
Have
Waited
One
Month....
It was worth it :)
Dang it, missed a lot of your recent streams. But, at least I have this amazing devlog!
I'm really enjoying this game. Also great to see you pushing through the difficult moments. It's like your on a hero's journey with every devlog.
Maybe it's time to look into other game engines where you have more flexibility how you structure your logic? It seems like Construct is starting to hold you back with regards to code complexity. Construct is great to create simple games fast, but I think you are getting to a place where it might make sense to move on to either Unity, Unreal or Godot.
The wait was worth it!
These videos are amazing
This looks dope, I've just recently gotten into game design myself. I think of you polished this and added an online custom map design and share feature, this would be a really good commercial game.
Haha the joy of a programmer messing around with a bug! 4:32
Fun devlog really enjoyed!
Funny how depending on your background, solo devs dont have the same problems. As a programmer, I watch this and go "How can he output all those sprites in so little time !?!?" meanwhile the enemy AI would have been a piece of cake for me. I think it's why I like this channel, he is good at stuff I'm not, making it a good opportunity to learn from him.
This round system should be added to more jams
Your graphics and game concept is awesome. Good job dude
I made a kinda similar game in another jam haha. This is great!
It would be cool if the boss cloned itself
Ccongrats on getting 1st place Vimlark!
Looks super good!
Hey Vimlark, I’ve just been wanting to ask this question, what do you use to create your games? I’m a 12-year old child, 13 in a few months, and I’ve wanted to pick up some game development, I have nothing better to do in Quarantine anyway, so, back to the question, what do you use, and what would you suggest for me as I’m starting?
4:37 I guess people would notice this powerup at least.
Hey vim could you please make more tutorials series
I'm going to try to make some short ones. Unfortunately they take a huge amount of time and don't get a lot of views.
An idea for how AI could work:
*Detection*
what you could do is have it so every 5 seconds it has all monsters that arent currently aggro'ed do a "search", where they get the distance between the player and themselves, if that distance is within their threshold for aggro'ing to the player then they begin moving towards the player. This would look something like
If Distance =< Detection-threshold
*Movement*
How this could work is where depending on the monster, it will try to allign itself to the X axis of the player or the Y axis (Like how in terraria the Eye of Cthulhu trys to stay on the players X axis so it can ram them) That would look something like this
If PosX =< PlayerPosX and If PosX => PlayerPosX
(have this always prioritized over moving on the Y cordnate to have them allign to X, do the opposite for Y alligning. So like if they arent alligned to X yet then ignore Y movement, etc)
You could even add in a thing for one of the monsters where they come at you from your Y axis, but once they are within 10(units) of you they swap to alligning to X as a form of flanking.
Anyways this is looking good, Good luck on the final round!
What do you use to make the game ? (Tools, etc.)
Hey quick question what is this game engine? Also love your vids
It is construct 3
I thought that you could use the money as a spell to make a path under you
Vimlark is like bubsy except that his catchphrase is "thats a future me problem"
Wait round 2? didn't I just watch Yannick in ... uhhh good luck in round 3 :)
Yeah, I had to change editing software so I'm a bit behind on making videos.
Nobody:
Literally every final boss in RPG games: 4:35
7:44 for all you memers like me
THEY'RE GROOVING
I'm not sure if someone said this already or not, but you said in the last episode something along the lines of you couldn't quite put your finger on what the enemies reminded you of..... they totally look like one of the enemies in MegaMan Legends. The ones that fly around dropping tanks while the city hall is under siege.
what website did you used to make the game?
What coding software do you use im starting out in coding and i would love to use it for projects
Hey congratulations for you i heard you won
Thats super cool! I'm making games too, maybe we can colab in future
Programmer: my code don't work anymore, guess I'll be farmer
"Oh no I'm now future me" 😂
Nice Game! Which Program do you use?
Ive always wanted to learn to code, i thought now would be a nice time to start but i dont know where to start.
@Spellweaver is this coding language of love2d difficult to learn. Right now im learning c# but im getting distracted by many things like aseprite. Since you are a user of love2d maybe you could give me some tips.
@bierzuip coronasdk is an unfortunate name
If you want to learn how to code I would suggest you start with an easy to learn scripting language like lua. There are plenty of frameworks for lua to easily draw stuff on screen, move it around ect (e.g. love2d, coronasdk and cairo).
You should start by finding a framework that you like and reading about it. Many people use Unity, some seem to like Godot, I personally am into Love2d. Coding without any framework so that you can see the results of your work is not rewarding, so I would recommend picking it first and learning the language in process.
Hey man, I would just recommend on going through some tutorials. I know, it sounds boring and it actually is, but those basics are necessary if you want to get anything done. The great thing is, you basically have to learn only one language, since the concepts are always the same and only the syntax, the way how stuff is written, changes. There are many tutorials on Java and also Python seems to be quite represented, so I recommend to start there and then move on to one language that you are comfortable with.
I know, no one will answer me but what is he using to make the game
What game engine do you use?
Its kinda reassuring that you are struggling. Because I always think Iam the only one :O
yay it's here!!!
What game engine did you use?
Olivier Mastey Construct I think
7:46 it shows editor.construct.net
Why does his voice sound different compared to the 1st ep
Sounds like me doing anything.
I won both of the versions
What engine do you use?
