Intel desktop chips are still the best for gaming though. Until that changes, i'm sticking with Intel. Waiting for AMD to release something better than the 9900k for the same or lower price.

Still getting Intel/Nvidia setup, price to performance isn't better than amd, but for just gaming performance overall, it still wins. If you buy an AMD GPU than just lol.

The Mobile team was not the same team working on the Desktop & Server Chips so they had less $$$ and expertise to focus on Mobile chips which was a huge mistake for AMD but they still have way less people and profit then Intel to throw at things they had to wait for the team on the desktops to be ahead of time to be able to help them more on the Mobile side!!!!

    • suicidal.banana

Yup Intel pmuch doesn't even care anymore, they keep up with AMD's latest (single core perf. anyway) with a years old architecture and bigger die size, so why stop doing their usual trick of milking us customers with tiny upgrade steps, they're definitely not in any sort of a hurry

  • Escape Reality
    Escape Reality 2 months ago

I think Intel is planning bigger thing, sun tzu once said look weak when you are strong, look strong when you are weak

    • Escape Reality
      Escape Reality 2 months ago

@suicidal.banana Agreed, now that AMD had up their game finally make Intel moving. AMD may now become a worthy opponent for Intel but their reign is unsecure because Intel originally own the right to the x86 cip, AMD should start to focus on new cpu like Risc v in order to surpass intel. They do not have to use same road as Intel because AMD had always perfecting cpu ifficiency

    • suicidal.banana
      suicidal.banana 2 months ago +1

The general consensus among serious tech folk is that Intel has gotten this 'lazy' because of the fear of monopoly lawsuits, they own 80% of the cpu market, if not more. Personally I think its more to with the fact that they like to stretch out their roadmap as much as possible to keep raking in the big bucks & that's the reason they're behind the curve at the moment. You're right tho, they are in a much stronger position, keeping up with AMD's latest with several years old architecture, bigger die size etc (single core perf. anyway, but that's all that most consumers need)

10nm intel desktop and server chips is not coming. Even if it comes it will only be a 4 core 8 thread varient lower powered desktop chips. 14nm will last until Q2 2022. Then their 7nm fab will go into production and we will see all intel chips will transition to 7nm across all laptops, desktops and servers. Until then 14nm ftw :P

@Akshat Ghoshal well I've been with AMD since x4 phenom series came out... intel has been taking advantage of consumers and it finally shows, and now us as consumers we will benefit from this war.
I'm glad AMD is back and I hope intel learns a lesson. Don't take advantage of that hand that feeds you.
Also everyone looking at intel stocks, did you also notice that intel raised their prices and the same product launched with just an add letter but 5% supposedly increase. That's how they keep their stock up its marketplace illusion.

    • Akshat Ghoshal
      Akshat Ghoshal 2 months ago

@michael lehner just because Intel is losing ground doesn't mean it's worse. It's because simple minded people like u who join the AMD bandwagon

Funny to see so many people think they understand company value, go look at _profits_ guys, stocks are just that, stocks. I guess a lot of you don't realize that's how 95% of companies get overvalued. mostly just in america.

    • Akshat Ghoshal
      Akshat Ghoshal 2 months ago

@suicidal.banana Intel stocks are at an all time high after 20 some years. Ur point?

    • michael lehner
michael lehner 2 months ago +1

@suicidal.banana You are the one who needs to look at those hardware stats. They have a graph for simple minded people like you. Over the course of the last 5 months intel has been loosing ground consistently. This trend will likely continue depending on how consumers buy laptops. In the desktop world AMD is hurting intel badly.

  • Boe Dillard
    Boe Dillard 2 months ago

Give me a workstation processor that supports PCIe 4.0(or 5.0) and about 80 PCIe lanes since by the time they take away those use by usb, network, sound etc that will only leave about 32 lanes free for the cards. So I could finally use 2 graphics cards or 1 graphics card, 1 raid controller and 1 40 or 100gb nic. Sure, I can do that on my current motherboard but I'm probably only using 20 PCIe lanes at most between the 3 cards. You can say well, your current video card can only really burst at so many blah blah blah. Doesn't matter, I want slots that have lanes they are set for to be available.

    • suicidal.banana
      suicidal.banana 2 months ago

Before you toss your latest Intel lappy you might wanna try some side by side comparisons for daily use, AMD has fancy numbers but the harsh reality is that even after all these years (of having multicore cpu's) there's bscly no multithreaded software besides some video editing software, and even that is moving to gpu-first. Just my 2 cents, I get your point and Intel totally is lazy.

    • suicidal.banana
      suicidal.banana 2 months ago

Intel has left the building because they can't even be arsed to make fun of AMD, there is no competition lol, go check steam hardware survey, over the past 5 months they lost 3% marketshare to Intel, who really didn't do anything for that besides slap an i9 sticker on an existing cpu. Quite a big chunk of marketshare too considering Intel has like 80% of the market. Sorry to burst your bubble but we're a long way away from AMD giving Intel some healthy competition, sadly.
