Forging seems terrible for your posture. You guys should try making the height of your anvil adjustable so you fan stand up straight instead of hunching over it

  • Kevin Toppenberg
    Kevin Toppenberg 4 months ago

From an ergonomic standpoint, that anvil looks way too low. The working surface is down below the waistline. I see back pain in the future.... :-( But I'm not a blacksmith, so I don't know the proper height. It just doesn't look right.

Would you need to heat treat those punch tools? Or would that make them too brittle?

  • Daniel Rawlings
    Daniel Rawlings 4 months ago

I see you’re using desalt tools. I’ve been in the tool business since I was about 15 f21 now) and Have been wood working since I was about 11. I have some good advice for you and what brand tools to use in what situations.
You see, what brand you choose to work with really heavily depends on what its purpose is going to be in your shop. If it’s just basic house hold use, and only going to be used once a month or so, I recommend Ryobi (Home Depot) Black and Decker or Hyper Tough (Lowe’s). But clearly you need something a bit tougher. Dewalt and Makita are both really good brands, the problem is that their internal mechanics are clunky at best. Dewalt is a better tool if you are going to be working in construction and you need to work quickly and get a lot of work done in a short amount of time, but has a reputation of breaking more often. Makita has better precision and has a reputation of lasting a really long time, but still falls short to my favorite brand, and the brand that I use in my shop, Milwaukee. It has a long shelf life, solid mechanics, and offers extreme precision and strength. I know I sound like a sales person right now, but seriously, from one maker to another, I highly recommend Milwaukee.

You guys have the best editing from an audio perspective. Also how you found a song that would match the tempo of your hammering amazes me.

A lot of times if you need a tool you can just make the one you need and not only does it save time and money over shipping, as you see your skills grow you get to see your progression in the tools that you make.

ALEC - coffee pro here, if you really like french press, try using water at 180F for four minutes. Many people use boiling water which is way too hot. (212F for you C types) also, you must use a burr grinder. If all you got is a blade grinder, have the coffee shop grind it for you.

I build mounts for Museum objects and I think you should consider putting some padding between the hanging hardware and the sword. In museums, we usually use either sticky backed felt or heat shrink tubing to keep the mount from scratching the art.
