- ESSENTIAL STEPS OF A CEMENTLESS TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT
I have been getting repeated requests for a proper HD video of the complete steps of a cementless total hip replacement, and I have just managed to find time to edit a recent case in the form of a 2X speeded ten minute HD video.
There are only two essential goals for component placement, the acetabulum should be true deep, 45% to the pelvic axis and follow the natural version; and the femur should be valgus seating with the correct neck cut for limb length equalisation.
The operating time was close to 40 minutes, while the blood loss needed just one unit replacement. The magic cocktail ensures pain free post operative period and early mobilisation.
With properly done cementless hips, a fairly early weight bearing can be allowed, and these hips have now shown a fairly satisfactory follow-up for over 20 years.
