I don't regard Stephen Fry as intelligent, he is a media made God. Keep believing the hyperbolic twaddle oh obedient sheeple. It will become true just like the unicorn.

The man is who I am interested in here. He is correct in the fact that people no longer do things together. This is why no one relates to one another.

I’m not sure that Stephen Fry is actually more intelligent than most of the rest of us, I think it’s more likely that he is less afraid to openly declare the stuff he knows or the stuff he has learned about. He wants to share the things he has learned with other people where as most of the time people on television are dumbing you down and not helping you broaden your intelligence. I think that’s the major difference.

If Stephen Fry was actually highly intelligent then he would realize that most consumers have dropping I.Q's and decreasing attention spans to get much use from his book.

If you love Stephen Fry (and who doesn't!) search for "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson 2/23/2010 Stephen Fry" on youtube. It's an amazing 40-minute interview, I watch it every now and again and always get something new out of it.

Now, although Stephen Fry is intelligent, this is not intelligence. Just knowing things is only Knowledge. Intelligence is having the skill to put that knowledge to use and invent new connections from it. That is distinctly missing from this vid, please change the title.

Stephen Fry is such an educated and well spoken man. It’s effortless to listen to him tell about his interests and studies. If you even aren’t interested in them it pulls you in with his voice and obvious intimate knowledge on everything he speaks about.

Stephen fry has previously admitted that he is not actually that Intelligent, his IQ is not at a genius level bit he has a curiosity about everything and likes to learn and he has a way of presenting the things he has found out very well. I like the guy but everyone seems to be reading in to how great and intelligent he is. Let's calm it down people

I went to a public school, and we studied Greek mythology extensively when I was in grade nine. Our English teacher was obsessed with it, and having thirty fourteen year olds with crazy hormones was fertile ground for stories of adultry, incest, fantasy, jealousy, and religious overtones. Also, if you can read, you can find all of this in a library. You don't have to watch tv your whole life.

I'd have to disagree with Steven about people not gathering around a hearth anymore. My family, and many people I know, like to gather around a bonfire on summer nights. Many people have cast iron fire bowls on their patios, and of course modern homes are still built with fireplaces. So I think there is still a strong connection between people and fire that is more then nostalgia.

There are a lot of comments about this vid. Most are in agreement that intelligence and IQ are related but different, however there is some confusion/disagreement around the concepts of knowledge, learning and education, so I would like to introduce something I learned at uni. It's called Bloom's Taxonomy.
Bloom's Taxonomy is a pyramidal Hierarchy beginning at the base with KNOWLEDGE - the simple long term memorisation of raw facts/data; Next is COMPREHENSION - Understanding those facts; APPLICATION - using and applying what you have learned; ANALYSIS - identifying patters and trends; SYNTHESIS - Combining and adapting existing concepts into new ones; and finally EVALUATION (what some here refer to as Wisdom) - Using what you have learned to solve, judge and recommend.
One of the conclusions I personally draw from Bloom is that some individuals (Tesslar, James Dyson, Bill Gates, Shakespeare et al.) are more driven to exploit their talents at the mid-levels of Analysis and Synthesis whilst others are driven to the top level of the pyramid, to pursue the highest levels of knowledge in their particular fields and to pass it on to others.
Happily there are sufficient numbers in both groups for society as a whole to benefit from.
