Alright boys! Just got this baby in the mail today and can now tell you guys my first impressions. First i'm coming from a 2018 Mac Book Pro so its a bit of a swing for me.

    - First the things that are better than the Macbook:
    - The X1 is light; like stupid light. I never realized how heavy the macbook was until i lifted this thing.
    - The keyboard is a breath of fresh air; i got use to the butterflies switches after awhile but the key travel on this thing is just so much better. I will say that the keys are really stiff; and that might just be because its fresh and brand new so we will see how that pans out.
    - Getting the back of the laptop open so i could switch out the SSD was stupid easy; 5 Phipps head screws and your in.
    - Second the things that are Ok but not better than the Macbook:
    - The X1 looks rad; however i really wish is was made out of aluminum even still the body of the laptop is ridged and solid and i don't think its a real issue.
    - The screen of the device is solid; i have the 1080p version so i cant speak for the 4k but its still looks nice. The macbook screen is a little more saturated which looks 'nicer' but i cant really say which i like better. Also side note for whoever is actually reading this; this keyboard is really amazing and i getting way better at it the more i use it. Jesus i'm never switching back the the butterflies.
Lastly things that are just flat out worse than the macbook:
    - The track-pad; really no one will ever beat apples track-pad. Its the best and this one isnt even close. However its still usable and i'm just going to have to get use to it. Also Also who puts the left and right buttons above the track-pad its just so weird.
    - The speakers are good and i no doubt think they are better then the 6th generation of the device where they were on the bottom of the laptop. However the speakers on the macbook blow these things out of the water. No where near close. Not even in the same ballpark.

In conclusion: I really like this laptop, so far at least. i'm a Walmart employee by trade and write fantasy novels as a hobby whenever i can, so i needed a good keyboard to travel with. The weight and the keyboard on this thing are to die for and we will have to see if i actually fall in love with it or not. Thank you for reading now get back to work or whatever else you should be doing :D

Awesome. Now put an AMD processor in it. Almost twice the GPU performance is worth the small tradeoffs in CPU performance and battery life for many of us. Although, I probably still wouldn't buy it until the Zen 2 + Navi chips are out, my current A485 is serving me well enough, except the display Lenovo should be ashamed of their 1080p displays

    • Bobby M
      Bobby M 5 days ago

I use my right pointer finger to navigate with the track point and I use my left middle and pointer fingers to left and right click respectively . It’s more comfortable than swiping across a track pad all day making my wrist fatigued and achy. It’s the best thing ever trust me.

I bought the last year model and it came with dead pixels, one year later I'm still dealing with Lenovo. They can't fix it (they try to replace the screen 6 times, making me wait weeks between trys) made me loss SO MUCH TIME, it took more than 8 months to give me the money back. It's a shame because I use to love thinkpads, I even have thinkpad keyboards on my desktops. But fuck Lenovo man, their support is terrible, at least outside the US. Also, they didn't fully paid what I spent, I lost the 50% tech tax of my shitty country.

Why. Who gives a shit about how thin this mobile junk is. At some point, it's going to be too much (if not already). It's harder to hold (with phones/tablets, in particular), it's likely costing performance (the laws of thermodynamics cannot be avoided), and it makes the things more prone to bending or breakage.
Stop. They're @#$%ing thin enough! The other stuff looks pretty impressive though, yes.

Why *TrackPoint* still exists in Thinkpad 2019 ?

    • Chris D'oulmeth
      Chris D'oulmeth 8 days ago

Because people like to use it?? A lot of Thinkpad users have never owned anything but Thinkpad so they are very used to trackpoint like you are used to trackpad. Why remove it when it works good and people still want it? You can also ask why does Huawei still put IR blaster in their phones in 2019? Because people want it and people use it.

I do not know who the hell has made it a trend that laptop must be opened with one hand. Once upon a time a wise man told that please stop your other hand from jerking off for a second and open your laptop. I loved Lenovo’s hinges because they were so sturdy and fixed in the adjusted position. I have now a Huawei, I can open it with one hand, but when I move the laptop or want to use it in my bed the led drops. So please stop bulllllllshit about one hand opening

Looks amazing. However, and perhaps I'm reading their site wrong, the max kitted out (£2,391.19) one is limited to 16B RAM maximum, (soldered) doesn't support WiFi 6 and only supports Bluetooth 4.1 instead of 5.0
I was actually most surprised about the lack of WiFi 6 support though. The speakers do sound great though.
