This drawing tablet lets you use real art supplies

  • Published on Jan 9, 2019
  • The iSKN Slate Repaper drawing tablet is geared toward artists and is a huge improvement from the original Slate in 2016. The original product was unique in that it let the user fit magnetic rings on their own pens and pencils, which would work with the magnets in the tablet to convert strokes on to a companion app in real time. You could place any paper on the tablet, clip it in place, and start drawing. Back then, I was disappointed by the tablet’s bugginess and sensitivity, but this fourth-generation product fixes a lot of those issues.

If you're drawing it on paper anyway you might as well just scan it. The digitized version isn't going to be as good as the scanned original, especially if you're shading with the side of your pencil or anything.

I mean isn't the whole point of graphic tablet is that you don't have to worry about art supplies?
Also, undoing even once and doing different layers would take a Hella lot of time as you have to change the paper every time and that's a big mess when you're undoing heavily in colouring/sketching
No hate towards the product but I see it non practical if you're a digital artist, maybe some will find it useful but not me
    Nice to see Dami though

They need to sell their own art supply with auto-recognization chips built in. Artists and Designers who constantly switch their tool in hand during their creation process should not need to go through the menus and change the color, tool type, etc. every time they switch, a total flow-killer.

    • C Ol
      C Ol 4 months ago

I actually find it inconvenient to use a scanner when drawing. You have re-trace your drawing on Photoshop or Illustrator. Compared to a tablet or this device this can actually save you a lot of time.

Aside from just doing the outlines, you can finish the whole artwork, like coloring it in and have control of the line types and brushes. Think of it as just drawing on a tablet with a stylus. I guess it's just another competitor in that market.

This is a fair bit different technology. The Wacom uses it's own pen. This uses any pen.
Personally I'd just use a camera and clean up with a curves adjustment. Or just use a Cintiq/Surface

@The-One-And-Only if you like engrish drivers, illiterate customer support, and hit or miss program compatibility. I'LL stick with the dinosaur thanks ;). I'd go with lower resolution and a dimmer screen any day of the week. At least the wx is still supported, the driver's always work, and they can actually spell.
I owned a GT-190, Huion has duds to. Bought the WX after off eBay, a million times better.
