  • Rupesh Thomas, co-founder of the TukTuk Chai & his wife Alexandra entered the Den seeking £100K investment in return for 5% equity. Rupesh Thomas' background gave the impressions of a real-life 'Slumdog Millionaire' story which may be a positive for investors but once the Dragons tried tapping into those all-important numbers - it was clear who had real control...
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

I like tea but I don't like Chai myself. I just don't like the spices. Maybe there's a Chai out there I'd like as I've only tried one type.

To be fair the first year is negative in every business. The businesses the five dragons have, had a first negative year as well. Imagine if you would want to own a little coffe shop: You have to buy all the equipment, rent a "box" in a mall (have to start from somewhere), buy in all the products you sell and market your new shop. It's a new business so at first not many people even know it exists. You want to tell me that in 1 year not only did you earn back all the money that went into buying equipment/building the place/paying rent/paying salaries and buying in products.. not only that but you actually profited? The first year is a negative. Everyone knows that. It sounds pretty absurd to ask "why?" Why do you think, dear Debra?

100k for 5%? What's the profit margin on that investment? 800%? 900%? Or do you only invest in sole proprietorships with less than 4 employees? I don't even think Tencent is that greedy and they invest in slavery.
