I worked for two years with Karl and one day I had been waiting for the designs which hadn't appeared, the team was trying to keep busy but he arrived empty handed and late. I had to ask him so he sat down pulled out a pile of paper did about twenty sketches in minutes and handed them to me one by one. As I looked a bit longer at one he grabbed it back and added some smaller details and notes on the side and said 'voila' THAT is how that should be cut. He knew about pattern cutting and finishing, the lot. He had great humour. One night late when everyone had given their opinion on something he turned to me and said "what do YOU think" to which I replied " Karl you really don't want to know", he laughed and said well shut up then, honestly it was so funny. The fittings were always full of people and several famous models and sometimes a dog or two, his accountant, the head of Elizabeth Arden, the director of Vogue. One night when trying to get through the mob I said all we need is your concierge! He could still concentrate on fittings despite this crowd and turn out twenty dresses in one night, all fitted. We left sometimes at 2am, luckily I lived across the river and could walk, going over in my head all I had noted, it was an incredible time.

@Muhammad Saad Karl wasn't a social snob, he was as comfortable with cleaning staff as corporate execs. One day he was presented a gold watch by Dunhill, they made such a fuss of it, something that Karl dislikes. Next way we said 'Karl, Karl show us your watch' , he replied ' oh that thing, I gave it to the concierge'. That was typical of him. Another day a computer company sent a 'pretty boy' to Paris with a laptop, something new in the 90's, and presented it to Karl and the boy sat next to him and explained the workings. Next day Karl's assistant said ' wow this is amazing' so Karl gave it to him. Everytime Karl went shopping he took some of his assistants with him for support and he bought them all anything they wanted. He bought hundreds of thousands of incredible antique jewellery for his right hand woman at each collection and one day he gave us all bags full of Chanel gifts and made us sit down on the floor and open them like it was xmas. He was an incredible person but there was another side to him. His pet hate was being looked at in a judgemental way or being generally judged. He has fired people for this in a day. He did not suffer fools gladly.

I was reading some of Karl's quotes. Liked the idea of Karl that every time is great because days are same. You have to enjoy every time. Maybe he is a best mix of borh Stoic and Epicurean idealism: whichever fit well according to the time

I feel sad that everything was or will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. It should be kept as it is: as a public museum and French heritage site. Never will these objects be more perfectly arranged or placed. It speaks of such an amazing person and era and milieu and way of being in the world. Will be like the loss of Walter Benjamin’s library when the buyers descend on it and strip it like voracious locusts and pests..

So generous of her to share one of Karl’s homes with us. People use the word legend too casually today (as they also abuse the word couture) but Karl Lagerfeld was a legend and a truly modern Renaissance man. I worked for Shu Uemura USA (the makeup Karl used to draw with). We were honored that Karl recognized us. It was like being kissed by a king. (Harlech mispronounced it like most people do-so I will correct it to honor my old friend and mentor Shu Uemura.) Correct: Shoo Ooehmoorah. 5 syllables. Japanese (and another legend like Karl)

Can we just admire the dress your wearing? KL was a brilliant media and design interpreter. I have his limited edition Karl-box, collab with Faber-Castel. Every color of the rainbow in it, including pure graphite pencils and other special art tools. The colored pencils are organized in colors for 5 drawers. Red/orange; yellow, blue, green and shades of grey. Everytime I take the dust cover off of the black lacquered box he designed for the collection, I think of the rare person who created so many breathtaking designs.

Harlech looks like an amazing person. She stars in a lot of Lagerfeld's films as well, like 'The Tale of a Fairy' here on TheXvid! It was made for Chanel in 2011.

Well I loved Karl's house and his taste in design, but I sure never saw anyone who loved herself as much as this woman loves herself.

Very interesting. As a moderator my self (museums) I love the performance of Karl's friend and muse, her way of friendship and her stunning dress (by Karl, I guess).

She is old but young, it's a vibe. Such a fierce and sparkling soul.
