  • Intel is at CES 2019, showing its rivals that it can stay relevant and produce processor circuits small enough to stay competitive. The company is making progress on developing its next-generation 10-nanometer processors, and today during its CES press conference, the chipmaker showed off the first completed designs for what the company is calling Lakefield.

Intel Lakefiel is a ARM chip design ripoff... fully inspired by success of the ARM SOC's now with the x86 cpu architecture... seems like Intel would like to stay relevant to Apple which is developing its own ARM based SOC for Macbooks very similar, but more powerful AXX chips seen on the iPhone and iPad. Direct competitor in here looks to be Qualcomm and their new entry in the laptop market with the 80cx SOC with the x86 emulation we will probably see in the Apple's future SOC as well.

  • PinkasBrown44
    PinkasBrown44 5 months ago +1

People are so naive. Should AMD really outperform Intel in 2019, which we still don´t know until we see the comparison, they will charge more (and Intel might reduce prices). In the end it´s the same problem anyway. There are no ´good guys´ ou there. Only those who have to charge less so their product can cope with competition.

Tables turned in 2 years and people will be rooting for intel and trashing AMD....

I just want to point out, AMD gave live demos. Intel gave simulations on what their new stuff SHOULD do. Not what it is currently able to do. No live demo anything other than basic stuff that really was just dishonest/showed nothing.
AND searching for files on your system and largely based on your storage solution. Not your processor. Put 5400RPM drives in both of those and they will both tank.
On top of that, Laptops have been able to play videos for well over 20 years now. Good job intel, you pulled an apple and reinvented what was already made. Thank you.

I want to see these come up with mega chips - stop trying to shrink things down and think outside the box.
“Here’s our new Lake of Fire line of processors. You can fry a dozen eggs on each individual core in seconds. Our next generation we expect to bake bread in the hyperthreads. Also, these can do lots of calculations...”

When Intel's CEO can't get on stage to present their product, and instead send their employees to do it, you can clearly see Intel is in bad shape.

Looking at the video again, it appears adding BFloat to the FPGA on xeon is boosting runtime performance for DNN. That's good, but Microsoft is already doing realtime DNN with FPGA using their brainwave framework. It compiles DNN to run directly on the Xilinx FPGA. I'm guessing Intel is using the OpenCL to target the Xeon FPGA.
