Down is up is because its the flow of manual transmission design.. this is a great car..
The shifting speed is normal.. that jerkyness is what this car is about.. during that era people want manual car feeling...
E60 M5 sounds a bit complicated. Appreciating my e46 3 series even more after watching this.
Blue dumpster red dumpster
what a deception with Germans Cars...
Is that vermillion red color ? ._.
Just get the N54. 6cylinder twin scroll turbo and 300 hp stock. ALOT more reliable, better mpg, lighter, and a lot of fun. I love mine.
Why I get the feeling that mechanics in US don't know how to fix this car and then blame the factory...I admit this car have some issues from factory don't get me wrong
So your car wizard caused the problem? He bent the flywheel tooth.
Bmws new slogan “it’s like it’s Christmas everyday (because of the lights )”
that's why you don't go to regular mechanic with your M5, hope u learned your lesson buddy.
But people still buy & drive bmw
Do all bmw's beep randomly? mine does that shit too and my friends joke around saying it's the dealership reminding me they placed a bomb in the car and I better make my payments on time lol.
Seems still not sitting right from the side?
There are two types of people out there:Those who actually own an E60 M5 and haven't had any problems what so everAnd, those who have never even driven one, yet parrot their "unreliability" at every given chance. People don't seem to understand that if you buy a cheap shitbox, you're getting a cheap shitbox. In addition, even on good cars regular maintenance things happen. Throttle actuators fail. It's a $600 part. So what. Change it and move on. The SMG transmission doesn't need to be swapped out to cure an issue. There is documentation online miles long about what various components cause which failures. You can buy the parts and change them out. You don't need an entire transmission, ever. An entire brake job costs $1K now. A new clutch and flywheel kit, under a grand. Rod bearings either fail or they don't. It's not a ticking timebomb like boy racer teens will warn you. If you do nothing but cold engine 8,000rpm burnouts, you'll spin a bearing. No shit. It's 10W60 oil. It takes 15 minutes to fully warm up. What is so difficult here? Hello... F1 engine...? There are literally DIYs everywhere for every single thing on this car, and parts are cheap now. You need ZERO special tools or crazy equipment to own and maintain these amazing machines. In two years or less, the V10 M5 will become the new "It Car" that was the best and V10 and N/A and last of its kind blah blah blah, and well sorted examples will bring premiums upward of $30K. I watched literally the same thing happen with the E39 M5. For now, I'll keep driving and enjoying mine. It's been a very uneventful 5+ years of unmatched driving pleasure.
lol what a ridiculous car to own
Unreliable, for sure. My 2009 M6 V10 (same engine and SMG tranny as this M5) had just over 18 000 miles and mostly careful driving when it lit up dashboard with errors: Engine Fault, which went into limp mode, so it was idle control valve / actuator $900 + throttle actuator at $1000 each (1 each per bank, so x2) + labour! Also ABS + DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) faulty, so no ABS or traction control or DSC, which dealer quoted as $2700 for parts, excl labour! Gearbox spoils this car - only works well when driving manually with left-for-down right-for-up paddles, or hand shift sequentially using gear lever, although up/down shifts feel wrong way round.
The M5 isn’t a bad car,yes the SMG is a little sluggish out of M mode, though I think the sequential shift is the right way round, car pushes you back when accelerating, pushes you forward on the brakes lol. The biggest problem with it and, indeed, any luxury and/or high performance car,is how much it costs to start with. When it was new it would have been out the reach of most people,as it depreciated it became affordable. But it was still a top of the range car and servicing and parts still cost the same. So things are let slip, cheaper parts are used, servicing skipped. That all adds up to a gloomy future for any car. For what it’s worth,I wouldn’t buy a cheap M5,there too much trouble.
I’ll give u 10 bucks for it?
The beeping is a clock setting. every hour it beeps. Just turn the setting off. Upshifting towards you is the correct way. Family cars have it backwards.. The shifting isn't slower than what you do with manual gearbox it's just the feeling becauae you don't move the stick and instead you wait. The idrive system is logical and nice... man, just sell the car if you don't like it.
Such a great sounding car!!!!!
So was my cousins in Ohio when we gave her a backyard abortion with a wire hanger
Beeping was the hour clock lol
The beeping you hear is an hourly beep. It beeps every before the next hour. Basically at 11:59 it will beep to let you know it's 1 minute before 12
mistarealitee74 thank you my car does this all he damn time and I had no idea what it was lol
Where can I get Thanos system pump
I am so sorrt for you dissapointmant! I just ask: why did You buy a car that You don't like? You should buy a VW Passat DSG, it changes gears very fast!
I found a manual and it solves most of the problems with this car.
You're daughter is hilarious!
Why not just convert it to a full manual transmission with regular clutch. Your daughter's college fund must have enough left to cover it . Love your garage. Hope you are going to add heating , A/c and humidity control and plumbing so you can wash the cars inside . Oh add some ventilation to remove CO2
my e46m3 smg shifted way faster than that
Doing burnouts in double clutch BMW will 100% break it when traction control is not deactivated. You moron! What an idiot...If you like burnouts, buy 70s camaro... Only thing that can be said here is "Your bad"
hey dumbass, you upshift pulling to the back because of thats the way racecars does, because of acceleration and g forces, and you downshift into the front because yo do it while you are braking in lots of g forces...
Other than the rod bearings, the S85 is pretty reliable right? It could be pretty cool to swap one into an E34.
I’ll trade you for my truck straight across it is worth about $17,000 and it is one of 1000 made
Manual shift up/down thing is how it should be man. Use it like a trigger. Moving up to upshift just makes no sense.
You don't deserve that car. You are a lame moron. Why take a BMW to an unqualified tech? That's why you don't understand the car. Because he lied to you.
This video makes me feel better about losing £3000 on repairs on a POS BMW 3 series coupe, then it cracking the floor pan.
Get a manuel one and i am sure you will fall for it in a second
Ahh ... my audi is just fine ✌🏼
It still blows my mind that when people start these expensive fancy engines, they instantly proceed to rev the shit out of them, when all the oil and other fluids are still cold.
most people have no idea about oil temps and shit
The built date 05 to mid 07 e60 m5's have lot of problems with vanos pump. SMG transmission software can be upgraded to CSL tune which gets rid of the sluggish shifts. I suggest you buy a manual transmission m5 which is much better with lot less problems. Rod bearings do need to be replaced between anywhere from 80k to 100k. S85 engine is made to run hard... doesnt mean you the rev the piss out of the engine without load.
You really don't know how to use the SMG properly. It still doesn't become perfect, but much better than you make it seem.
Down to upshift is 100% correct. You'll generally upshift more, and pulling down is more of a natural motion.
The beeping is the clock memo. Every time your clock reaches an hr o'clock it beeps. Lets say its 10:00pm, it will beep. Same thing as 12,12 1, etc. Go to ur idrive settings and UNselect memo
I used to reside in wichita. Now at kc and i can tell you, that bmw mechanic is a genius. I have always owned bmws and fords. What i have noticed, a not so good mechanic would fix my car and right away i have a new issue. Which usually is related to the new fix. Funny z cc isn't it? Thats why am always careful who touches my car.
also you need to do the rod bearings around 80k. BMW really dropped the ball on this issue but that is the recommended interval.
you can't brake burnout like that!!!! It has a clutch!!!
Idiot! Buy another one for 1k so you can keep complaining and making vids...
Up shift is and always will be pulling towards you down shift is away from you, I'm sorry great video but it just is.
Fuck the wizard and fuck this guy
The shift directions:If you accelerate, it is much more easy to pull the Lever for shifting up. Pushing the lever would be against the inertial force. The same is valid for shifting down the opposite way. (Seems you did not drive the car too long to appreciate they did it the right way)Automatic shifting:Yes, the automatic shifts are not nice - but even as an american you will get used to manually shift this car by Lever or paddles and finally you will appreciate the pleasure to shift on your own instead of let the car do everything! (Remember YOU are the one, who drives and YOU should be the one, who decides when to shift - otherwise, just do not buy an M car! ;) )If you are in higher rev ranges the shifts will be completely fine. I suggest using the second to last speed setting. (AFAIK the speed setting in manual mode will remain at the last setting. The automatic setting will revert to the standard level 2 after each start)
I respect u sir. I drive a e38 740i and for me it costs alot of money to maintain. For now i have purchased everything to keep it running. I also go to a bmw specialist and the last fix were my shocks and that costed alot. In my opinion its worth it im afraid that i will never be able to enjoy a car more then this. All the E cara coming now
At 9:12 the gripe about the shifter being "backward"? Think about this. You're hard on the gas. 500hp screaming to redline. You need to upshift, and right now. The acceleration forces naturally help you upshift with a rearward pull. Opposite when you're hard on the brake and you want a lower gear, the braking force helps you push the lever forward. Otherwise you're always working against the forces. Quite logical.I had an Infiniti with a slush box and its manual mode was push forward to upshift and pull back to downshift. Following the logic in the video, you're always working against the forces instead of with them. And one HUGE issue that happened to me more than once with this Infiniti: sometimes after driving for a while in manual, I'd put it back in auto, then forget I'd done so. After stopping, I'd go to upshift manually and put the trans in neutral (since it was in the auto gate, not manual). Not a good thing for the engine, as it would then rev furiously.I appreciate that my '08 535 (with the infamous N54 twin turbo) has a manual mode in the auto shifter that works the same way as the M5.
DELPHI BUY DELPHI DOWNLOAD FREE BUT NEED TO BUY A CABLE
My dad has 330d m3 make and has active steering wheel error
Delphi 40 quid on ebay
Haha what faults on computer Delphi??????
Interesting simple cure to a complex problem, it just goes to show, experience is gold when diagnosing mechanical issues.Spanner heads rule!
Yes , u are right , u are not the right guy to own a legendary Bmw m5 v10 .
dO yOu NeEd To TaKe mY cOlLeGe MoNey AGaiN?
The beeping at minute 10:00 is the hour marker on the car it will beep three times on the hour. FYI
Tried to do burnout failed and blamed the car.... Smh bro learn to drive pls
And that people is way you buy a Merc😅
“ I purchased a Lambo Gallardo for $20k with E-gear and over 60k miles and I’m hear to report that is sooo expensive to fix. Everything needs to be replaced! I’m shocked and will be an echo chamber for all other videos. 90% on all the bad and 10% on all the phenomenally amazing aspects of a truly amazing machine. Who should have though a $100k car retail would be costly to operate.”Drive the car like a Manual and let off gas every time you would if you had a stick in between the two front seat!!! Get way more seat time and miles and STOP CRYING. It is a V10 PHENOMINAL ENGINE THY BELONGS IN A SUPERCAR. Also stop talking so much about money and more on the dang car!Up is downshift bc while heavy braking you push up and while accelerating naturally you pull back. All this stuff will come to you if you drive way more before giving your review which is way closer to first impressions. Like a person, special cars take time to learn the true character. I’d rather have manual which is available but SMG III has character as II can feel each gear which has charm like a manual. Not everyone wants laser fast shift and if II do, buy another car. I like your videos but if we claim to be car guys we need to cut all the negative talk and focus on the positives, mention the negatives and be realistic on the experience as a whole. F10 is faster with fast DCT yet way less exciting bc it’s too civil. A lion that acts like a house cat is no longer a true lion.
i think the beeping sound on @9:55 is the clock, beeps when it's a full hour...
Mode 1 is for snow ❄️
Nice seats, do they sit more upright than the usual 5 series seating position which is more angled back (front of seat bottom is higher than rear).
Your awesome keep going I love these projects man : )
BMW has taken a great driving machine and let technology make them a complete POS* I dont like many of them past the E46 and E39. Anything newer than that has tons of unnecessary gadgets that ruin the reliability of the car.
how do people in murica manage to break everything that is reliable
+Keith Cannon then again a friend of mine bought an old e36 m3 which was the most unreliable vehicle he ever had, due to buying the cheapest one he could find, besides that cars like this bmw aren't made to be fixed on a budget, if there are faults on it you have to fix them not bypass them or use wire hangers...it's not an old e30
+Keith Cannon I drive an mk2 Mazdaspeed 3 which are known apparently for blowing their engine rods and mountings, mine however shows no signs of this, mostly it's not the car but the owner or past owner, my brother had a 2000 Land Rover Discovery 2, which never leaked any oil or water and never overheated lol
+Steven Kellerman These things are well known to kill the VANOS pump, eat rod and main bearings in as little as 25k miles not to mention utterly destroy their single disc clutch and the hydraulic servo system in the SMG transmission.Other than that the car was great.Lol!As if all of that does not cost more than the cost of one of these with decent miles today. So yeah ...they are well known to be ticking time bombs. There are numerous examples of cars like this. The 2005 Audi RS4 ...it is a brilliant car that can be had for less than 10k because the timing chain guides on the back of the engine will grenade and take out the entire engine at any moment.1999-2007 Honda minivans eat their transmissions are 90-130k miles...it is a well known problem.Dozens of cars are manufactured with similar ailments. No point trying to act like they don't exist. If you want to buy one then go for it...roll the dice!I won't be trying my luck with any of them though!
+Keith Cannon My father's boss had one of these he bought second-hand, considering he used to take it somewhat offroad due to the roads to their depo the only thing that ever broke was the VANOS system and that was after 200000km with him basically flooring it from startup
No one with any sense has ever called this year M5 reliable!Lol!Definitely the best /worst M5.If you know this car then you know what I mean!Such an awesome car that the engine and transmission both eat themselves!
Its not unreliable. Its just purchased by stupid people who think they know better . And brought to garages with M colours across the walls but no certified dealer flag .
Thise isnz thrue e60 is ok car problem is in owners
same problem with the O5 M3 transmissions
The Ford Focus has a transmission similar to this car. Only in the sense that the focus has a computer controlled manual transmission. The focus is terrible and lags when shifting and sort of backfires. They have transmission recalls.
Another issue is you bought a 2006 m5 first us model year with all issues....those issues were sorted outed in 2008 and perfected in 2010
Idk why everyone scared of this car...I’ve owned a 06 and currently an 08 and put over 100k miles on both and never had any issues beside oil cooler
The color is very very very nice !!!!!
BMW over priced Junk all of them are idiots for paying all that money something and fuck up all the time
You are a good salesman in selling the idea of not buying that car
that beping was the clock telling you its a new hour
So we now know how to fix an M5.Spend thousands and thousands of dollars on it.Then realise it's still broken and spend a few more thousands on it.Then you're nearly there, you just need to spend a few more thousands on it.
Too bad this isn't the LCI model.
Your an idiot
That's cheap for 6500 in Europe u won't find a m5 that cheap
Can the car wizard put a new frame on an e320? I need a god
this why you get a manual
If u don't sell that thing. Motor is going to go lol . save ur self the pain
+Giray Kharizzma lol ok used to run a used car dealership those and the 745s are moving grenades.
Titan mukungurutse it won’t go if u know how to take care of it
Single warning for today 🤣🤣 I drove one these death traps 🤣🤣 for a month that had 20k was trash.
Hoovy you look way older than 32.
I'm not sure why you didn't buy the car in a manual... Literally makes no sense to me
That’s why I bought a manual, you would love a manual. Want to drive mine next time you are in Florida?
Congrats and nice meeting you with Freddy at Amelia
well my trucks leaf spring was "fixed" with a metal hanger. the leaf spring broke sometime within the first 5 years. we bought it when it was 5 years old and the leaf spring had already snapped, its a 3 leaf and somehow they snapped the middle one.
Woohoo!! Feel free to work your magic on my Z4 haha
lol broken transmission try a 2015 Cherokee you will see a real broken transmission
Great video! Love to watch and hear about that model year M5!
E60 M5 = Glasscannon Car. Runs like hell but got more issues than my ex GF
Sadly but still awesome
i only buy $500 cars. you can beat the ever living (*&%( out of them with out any remorse and when you blow it up you get your money back in scrap
