I love Barry's comment about the balsamic, but the thing is you can't have something identical/similar to aged balsamic vinegar because it gets to be that fabulous specifically from the particular vinegar-making process that this vinegar undergoes...and it's a long and hand-done process, which makes the end product quite expensive. The culture and heritage of making traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena (aceto balsamico tradizionale de Modena DOP) is amazing! Modena is definitely a worthwhile tour learn about this gorgeous process that results in really expensive--and wonderful--vinegar. Cheers!

Making butter is so simple that you can basically make it by pouring some cream in a plastic bottle and shaking it vigourously for a few minutes.
Look up #Buttertoastchallenge if you don't believe me.

Butter making kits are ridiculous I think because it really is super super easy to make butter without having a major kit to do it

  • Inigo Freed
    Inigo Freed 2 months ago

there's absolutely nothing pretentious about pickles with extra stuff thrown in, the entire point is you put in the spices and flavorings you enjoy. Its more pretentious to assume there is a right way to do it. Likewise, beer flavored jam strikes me as crude, and its hard to be simultaneously crude and pretentious. Similarly, the balsamic vinegar is entirely genuine. 30 years ago when it was started, there was no sense of modern pretentiousness, and I think in Italy it would just be considered a high end good. On the other hand, both the butter making kit and the coffee tea are contrivances of modern marketing, turning a traditional practice people who actually make herb butter do regularly into an attraction. And making a statement about waste in coffee manufacture by making the worlds most expensive, least flavorful tea, out of a waste product.

When I heard “spreadable beer”.... my reaction “EWW” ...Because in the state of Wisconsin the people tend to love beer but I’m not sure if they would like this idea. Because we already have something that we serve at fairs and carnivals and it was called “deep fried beer” which feedback was 50/50.

You wouldn't consider £60 for a 30 year aged whiskey expensive, and they both loved the taste so while there is no way I'd buy it I don't see the balsamic as pretentious as you can see exactly why it exists and why it would cost that much.
