  • Sir Lindsay Hoyle promised last night to ensure that the “tarnish is polished away” to restore the reputation of the Commons after MPs chose him to replace John Bercow as Speaker.
Sir Lindsay, 62, was dragged to the chair in the traditional ceremony to become the 159th Speaker after four rounds of voting. He beat Chris Bryant, a fellow Labour MP, by 325 votes to 213 in a run-off between the two remaining candidates from an initial field of seven.

Both had promised to draw a line under Mr Bercow’s increasingly controversial tenure and allegations of bias and bullying. Sir Lindsay prevailed, however, after establishing a commanding lead in the opening ballot.
In an emotional acceptance speech the new Speaker promised to remove the tarnish of recent years and restore the reputation of the Commons - an explicit criticism of his predecessor.

I like the new speaker. As he was deputy speaker, he is a known quantity. And he is likely to stand by accepted practice instead of overriding tradition when it suits his political agenda like berk-ow.

When the Speaker of the House of Commons becomes the news, that's when his or her effectiveness takes a turn for the worse.
Speakers Weatherill and Boothroyd, although from different parties, never struck me as being overtly partial in the performances of their duties. They upheld the traditional role of the Speaker.
Speakers Martin and Bercow unfortunately showed, respectively, party toadyism and policy bias, so that it became impossible to even pretend to believe that they represented the House as a whole, and not favored sections of it.
The days ahead will be difficult enough for the House, and I sincerely hope that Speaker Hoyle will see a return to the old ways.

It’s the year 2056 and the show RuPaul’s Drag Race has further permeated mainstream culture. The leaders of the opposing parties are now forced to end every parliament session with a vogue off:
Ka ka ka ka ka MORE FUNDING FOR HOUSING Boom.
Ka ka ka ka ka ka INCREASE THE LIVING WAGE Boom.
A more entertaining way to settle policy more quickly.

The government as a whole collective establishment should be ashamed of itself. It has shown it's self as a total corruption and devalued the people vote to worthlessness. All the blockers of brexit should be utterly utterly ashamed.

You didn't even slow down mass migration, did you! NO! That will be your downfall. More people to storm parliament, when the migrant turns against its iphone and debit card suppliers, the Tories and Labour. MYOPIA is a Tory dis-ease. DUPLICITY is a short term pleasure.

And what they are saying is, we can stymie Brexit, as easily as we can change the top commons puppet master. But you didn't stymie Brexit, did you, messrs Tory and Tory bastards at "law", BRUSSELS stymied Brexit, didn't it. They just haven't woken up to it yet.
