Conan O'Brien came with the idea for this sketch during his stint at SNL. That's what he claims at least.

There were about five dumbass movies that used this trope at the time this skit was done. One was a frozen caveman, one was Nell (the feral woman that had to have a an emotional court scene delivered by her boyfriend scientist), Legally Blonde, and some others.
This was fair parody of those movies and LA Law + Ally McBeal and the unrealistic grand closing arguments. And Scene!
The Geico caveman came up about this time too.

Odd. You would think SNL would do enough research to know that an attornry and a lawyer are not the same thing by classic definition.

From time to time I remember the "Next on Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer" bit, where he's drunk on the plane. As the attendant walks by, he reaches out and slurs, "Stewardess, can you give me anuzherr drink?" And when he gets shut off, he drunkenly protests in his smarmy voice, "But I need this drink - I'm a caveman, and I'm frightened by your 'strange flying machine'. So get me a Dewars and water PRONTO."

@Trent Plumley Oh l love the left eating itself !!! The TRUMP effect v TDS (TRUMP Derangement Syndrome).

I remember different ads at the beginning of this scene...
DOG ASSASSIN. When you can't bear to put him to sleep, maybe it's time to call Dog Assassin.
BIG FAT BEAN: Why eat hundreds of little beans when you have one big bean?
CLYDE BAXTER: If you're on his jury, won't you please vote 'Not Guilty'? Clyde would appreciate it.

Does anyone have a year on this? And I say that GEICO swiped this for their NOW FAMOUS TV commercials and tagline using Cavemen. This skit was so bad even a 1,000 year old Caveman thawed out couldn't make it funny. This comment was sponsored by... "New Neanderthal Shampoo. It gives your hair that Once in a Millennia Shine! Although Keyrock seems more competent, this entire speech could have also come out of Lionel Hutz's mouth and it would have been in character.
