I'm gonna be one of the odd ones out here and talk about something other then how attractive you are. Now, the movie is awesome, I really like it. But the book (which I read before the movie came out) although kinda slow, is so much better. And I don't want to spoil anything, but its so different. None of the keys had the same challenges, the ending (which I wanted to be like to book so bad) was good I loved it but no middle earth mansion, no cowboy bebop ship (I was hyped for that so much), and the main character is so... boring out of the OASIS, and the design for Aech's OASIS avatar wasn't what I was expecting, not disappointed though.
That does seem like a lot of hate or criticism, and it kind of is, but I do highly recommend this movie. Its really good, but you should read the book too. At this point you're probably gonna read it after, and I would actually recommend that, don't really have a reason I just like doing that. Anyway, I'm done saying what I have to say.
Read the book, respect the movie.

I think the way you felt about Wade in real life being bland was by direction. Spielberg wanted the real life Wade to show low self-esteem and in the Oasis he would have a ton of confidence. I get what you're saying in your criticism, but I think the actor did the best he could with the vision that Spielberg had and the direction he gave.

IMO book was much better. It was for the best that it was longer than movie, although in some scenes it was too long. Trials in the movie have much less justification over them unlike in the book but original ones could not be put into one movie format anyway so it is understandable that they were changed. However overall shortening makes plot less consistent and justified. Some motivations are just lost ( for ex. death of one of the Japanese "brothers" before the last battle ).

She pretty much right, it was like Willy Wonka combined with Tron combined with Wreck it Ralph and Sword Art Online. A simple movie padering to as much pop culture movie, games, and music one could recognize. Was a bit cliched, I was able to call out a couple of moments ahead of time. I couldn't enjoy it because it was a bit too obvious at times, but it wasn't a bad movie.

I read the book first - and both are great, but I liked the book better for a few parts, and the movie better for others...
The book was great because you can catch every reference, every little detail, and you can feel more immersed in the actual world of the OASIS...
The movie was stunning for the visuals, and it had some interesting adaptations of the puzzles that wouldn't have worked as they were in the book without skipping large sections of them... the way they did them in the movie saved time and kept the movie moving along.
But overall, I think I like the book just a bit more, but both are a metric shit-ton of fun. XD

No the book shows the point of hallidays passion and thats what the hunt for the egg is about. Because if u understand his passion (hallidays) then u understand him through his passions. Thats whay steven took from the book. Like graucho marx said. Reality sucks but its still the only place to get a decent meal. Meal being love and reality. Thats the story

I've said it once to myself and a few people and I'll say it again. I loved Ready Player One! It was cool, creative, the animation was detailed, the changes were good and made it similar to How to Train Your Dragon in that they changed a lot from the book but still kept bits and pieces. I LOVED THE MOVIE and I have to applaud it for keeping the sexualization and stereotypes of nerds out.

you absolutely did the right thing. I read the book, and then (stupidly) re-read the book right before seeing the movie, i even looked up what the primary differences between the book and movie were so i wasn't blindsided. and I was still VERY let down by the movie. The movie isn't bad, but i can't separate it from the book and the book is SOOOOOoooo much better in my opinion. The characters are fully developed, they act independently and they all actually EARN their keys instead of the nonsense in the movie. would recommend the book over the movie, but it's better to see the movie before reading the book for maximum enjoyment of both

I really wanted to enjoy the movie and a lot of the time I did. the first half was great, it was fun and interesting but it just dropped the ball so severely on certain elements that I just felt angry when I left the cinema. The love story was pretty insulting (oh no, she has a birthmark, the horror /s). Aech's 'thing' was so obvious. Some moments super fell flat thanks to steering directly into awful tropes. The whole motto of the movie in the end seemed phoned in, but oh my god the last few lines. Holy hell those pissed me off. UGH what a shame too. I was having fun before that shit. Halliday's character was amazing too.

Since you like all the references, I think you would appreciate the book. I made the mistake of seeing the movie right after finishing the book, as far as adaptation goes I was sad because I'm all about being accurate to the source material, but it does make sense that it got changed the way it did. As it's own stand-alone film, it's very good and I plan to see it again to look at it as just someone eager to have fun.
