This Turtle Hasn't Had Lighting Since 1992 - 3 New Neglected Reptiles!

  • Today, I share three animals with you! A leopard gecko, bearded dragon and yellow bellied slider - all of which are suffering from metabolic bone disease. This is an irreparable, non-contagious condition that affects many reptiles who are fed poor diets, or given incorrect, or no lighting. The yellow bellied slider, for example, is over 3 decades old and has gone years without proper care, leaving him with a distorted and warped shell.

Perhaps you can create a groove in the basking spot so he can "fit" onto it better, maybe he could more easily slide onto it if it has a belly groove for him?

@Jennifer Lucas Cut down on misting yet? You may want to mention your tank/size/kind, substrate and plants in there. You can try to cut down on watering plants in there. I use this for my bioactive and house plants (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071WVZK1T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It works well too, allowing the plants to dry out some over being too moist all the time.

This is probably going to sound very naive of me, so please forgive me as I don't have reptiles. Is there no way you could straighten their legs, like you can with a dog who has ALD?

Is there some sort of brace that could help the shell remodel, even if it never looked normal it might help his mobility

I so want this Beardie!!! 💖💖 His poor soul having to deal with such a life. Same with the turtle!!
The gecko... It saddens me how people can't look after em to that stage....
These animals reminded me of a free Beardie that a breeder had rescued from an owner because the owner was breeding scaleless beardies through this one. Idk if it's still open for adoption and the shop owner does not agree with such a thing and he was only looking for a home for it.

Wait, uvb bulbs run out????? We just got a 40 euro bulb with heat, light and uvb for our bearded dragon and we thought that would be a really good investment (don't get me wrong, it still is as long as the bearded dragon is happy and healthy) but I didn't know it ran out...

  • Denay Gomez

No it sucks that he is buying and selling them in a damn Box and placed in a bag that has no way of breathing correctly, and has no way to eat, drink and have no place to keep the animal safe when it is being delivered and transported.. this channel and his website should come down NOW!!
Because I have a beardie of my own and never have I seen one look so miserable or stunned on how they are trapped in these boxes with no holes in them..

I wonder if the bearded dragon could get better with physical therapy and then later adaptive equipment. Like how people with orthapedic needs wear braces on their legs to help them stand or walk if their legs needed extra support.

turtles also grow for the first 10 plus years of their lives. It's based upon their environment bigger the environment, the bigger the turtle

  • David Spicer
    David Spicer 21 day ago

Not possible. Less then 2 years without getting vitamin D from light it would of died of metabolic bone disease. Less then a year its bones would off been so soft and deformed because it would rob calcium from its own bones. It if its a female it would be even worse because it would become egg bound. The only way around it is if you use vitamin d power and sprinkle it on its food.

  • Daniel Harvest
    Daniel Harvest 21 day ago

Also you should have seen but you were deep water for a turtle. It's better for their exercises better for their health it's better overall.

  • Daniel Harvest
    Daniel Harvest 21 day ago

Also the light does nothing to his shell the reason shells like that is because of his environment

RED-EARED SLIDERS SHELLS WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT ROT IF THEY'RE IN WATER 24/7. SINCE I WAS 6 I'VE HAD RED-EARED SLIDERS I BET A TOTAL OF 11 NINE OF WHICH WERE BETWEEN THE AGES OF SIX AND 12 BECAUSE PEOPLE AT THE PET STORE KEPT TELLING ME TO GIVE THE SLIDERS A COUPLE INCHES OF WATER TO SWIM IN TO 6 IN OF WATER TO SWIMMING AND A LEDGE HOWEVER I EVENTUALLY REALIZED AFTER RAISING SOME FROM EGGS ON THAT THEY THRIVED HAVING A ROCK SITTING IN A 40 GALLON TANK THAT WAS COMPLETELY FULL OF WATER FAST FORWARD 27 YEARS AND THE TURTLES NOT ONLY ARE THRIVING STILL ALIVE BUT THEY HAVE BEAUTIFUL SHELLS THAT HAVE NEVER ROTTED AFTER BEING IN WATER FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS CONSISTENTLY

Seeing animals in such conditions brings up my disgust for people sometimes, especially from seeing that poor turtle. It's a rule that almost as old as time itself: If you want to have a pet, HOW ABOUT MAKING SURE YOU ALREADY HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE IN TAKING CARE OF IT PROPERLY?! SO disappointing.😞
