Hyperkin Is Making An N64 Clone. But...

  • Published on Jun 6, 2019
  • Hyperkin announced that it is working on the Ultra Retron. An Nintendo 64 clone with HDMI (720p) output. It seems great and the games Hyperkin displayed (mostly) seemed to run well, but it the console will use emulation to run the games. Subscribe to ReviewTechUSA for more great content.

Make a console that can play ps1, n64 and Sega Saturn all in one system then I'll be impressed

    Why remake an N64 console?
It only had 3 or 4 good games on it...

@Paul Lomax And that's cool but I also consider other games 'must haves" & classics of gaming: Mario64, Pilot Wings64, GoldenEye: 007, Killer Instinct Gold, Wrantlemania 2000, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and others.

      @Captain Brandon Horror Film Lover
Jet Force Gemini, Killer Instinct Gold and Mario Kart are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that are truly great.
If I were to go with PlayStation the list would be far too long.

That's an opinion. Many notable cult classics & notable "overly long weekend rentals" were released on it. I just recently got a PlayStation Classic and some USB drive sticks re-loaded on Amazon. Some are cool but a lot of the N64's library titles hold up better. A lot of PS1 games are super blocky & had some play control issues or have dated faster. Its a solid system & I don't mind owning it, but the N64 has aged better then many gave it credit for.

N64 needs emulation. It looks horrific off the cart, even after an HDMI ultra mod. Needs some clean up. It'll get there.

Is it gonna have games programmed on it or is it just a upgraded N64 that runs the cartridges in 720p ? If it has 15/20 of the really good games from the N64 I would definitely pay 100 for it

I wish they would just make a reader with USB and I could run the emulator off my PC. It would be way better and I could use my N64 collection with my PC.

Not everyone has a PC, maybe some people would love to play n64 game on their HD TV's without modifications. Or maybe people dont wanna go through the hassle of downloading emulators and all that other stuff.maybe people just wanna plug in a console to their HD TV's pop in a cartridge and just zone out.

So what if it uses emulation? As long as the game runs well who cares? Xbox one uses emulation for backwards compatibility and the games run 100% fine

My question is will it be able to run games at 60 FPS since it’s using emulation. If there’s one thing I don’t want to revisit it’s the notoriously bad frame rate of most Nintendo 64 games.

  • Евгений Бурчаков

Rich, I wonder if you will review Polymega modular console? I'm really interested to know your opinion.

  • That One Guy Named Matt

Feels like rich completely writes this off as a product with no future. Looks way better than an A/V to HDMI converter from native hardware, at least from the video.
Add some display tweaking features with an easy reset, and you have a good little burner system.

  • nintendians

only nintendo could emulate their games perfectly.

  • TomApple
    TomApple 2 months ago

I have the same feeling for this console.... I more want a n64 on a chip then emulation. I want the games to play absolutely perfectly like the original hardware. It did cost a lot of money to clone n64 hardware back in the day which is why older clones don’t exist. But with current technology it should be “cheaper” but I’m willing to spend even a couple hundred to get a system that plays in hd as long as it’s not emulation
