“Mary Poppins Returns” is directed by Rob Marshall. The screenplay is by David Magee and the screen story is by Magee & Rob Marshall & John DeLuca based upon the Mary Poppins Stories by PL Travers. The producers are John DeLuca, p.g.a., Rob Marshall, p.g.a. and Marc Platt, p.g.a. with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer. The music score is by Marc Shaiman and the film features all new original songs with music by Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. The film also stars Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks; Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks; Julie Walters as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen; Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and introducing Joel Dawson as the Banks’ children, with Colin Firth as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins; and Meryl Streep as Mary’s eccentric cousin, Topsy. Emily Blunt is a magnificent actress and a wonderful, warm human being. I briefly met her on her 25th birthday and she was so warm and kind and left a lasting impression on me. She went out of her way to speak to me when she found out that I am a stutterer (like she used to be). Sometimes some people just leave you with a great feeling. Ever since, my husband and I have been following her career. What a path she has been on and now Mary Poppins! Bravo, Emily! 😀👍

While most are here cuz of Lin-manuel Miranda, I am utterly excited to watch the film cuz I loved the first one, I think casting Emily Blunt as the new Mary Poppins is a great choice (+ I want to hear her singing voice more), Dick Van Dyke returning (its kinda emotional really. Him still on the sequel even with his old age and decades after it has gotten a sequel), and I'm interested on how are they are going to continue her (and the Banks)'s story after so many years. I'm just also very happy that both Dame Julie and Dick are still here with us to see the sequel. Even the one who played Mrs. Banks is still alive. 😁 There are so many reasons why I want to watch this! I can't wait!

      +YTWarrior100 Alright, calm down! :-)
That doesn't surprise me, because Disney is always stealing from others. They did it with The Lion King, ignoring the fact that the creator of Simba, The White Lion, who's story and movie they copied (ahem, I mean "stole") didn't want it to get made...and even after they stole it, they didn't give him any credit. They did it with The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and didn't give any credit to Victor Hugo. They've done it countless times. They're undoubtedly, in many ways, an unethical organisation.
However, at least, with this film, they made good casting choices, and wrote an original script, for once, instead of remaking a mediocre live version of one of their past animations. And at least they seem to have stuck to the aesthetics, and feeling, of the original (which I believe P.L. Travers didn't like, either). Contrast that with The Dumbo trailer (which, as far as I'm concerned, is a big aesthetic disappointment, even though I normally love Tim Burton).
That's all I meant. I was discussing the aesthetics of the film itself, not the ethics of the Disney corporation, or their decision for making it, in general. That would have been an entirely different comment.
For example, I can praise the aesthetics of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, because talented artists and musicians worked on it, and in many ways, it's an aesthetically brilliant film. Nevertheless, I can still acknowledge that it would have been ethically, and aesthetically, better if they had been more loyal to the source material, and had credited Victor Hugo - or at least reached out to his family. And don't get me started on the unethical way in which Disney approached The Lion King, and treated the original creator of Simba, The White Lion! Nevertheless, despite the fact that Disney stole everything about the story and animation, and treated the original creator abysmally, I can still acknowledge that The Lion King, if viewed on its own merits, is a good film.
Or here's another example - there are some amazing 19th century grisaille paintings that were created using paint made from ground-up Egyptian mummies. This is absolutely horrendous, and goes against everything I believe in (the destruction of ancient artefacts, the feeling of colonial superiority over other cultures and races, etc.). Nevertheless, many of these works were painted by amazingly talented artists, and I appreciate the paintings themselves, for their aesthetics, and the skill that went into making them.
It is possible to admire a piece of art, while disliking the corporation behind it, the artist, themselves, or the way in which the art was conceived. Even Disney aside, there are plenty of pieces of music, film, fine art, literature, etc., that I appreciate, enjoy, or aesthetically admire, despite the fact that I dislike, or disagree with, the people who created said art, or the way they went about creating it. They are two entirely separate issues.

+YTWarrior100 But Disney didnt and now we have a sequel. The movie has been made. There is no way that you can keep people from not going to see the movie. If you dont like it, dont watch the movie. Dont watch the trailer. Dont go commenting that its wrong to see this movie because it is made to be seen. It might be wrong in your opinion, and maybe someone elses aswel, but that is no reason to seek out drama on youtube. The movie is made. Period.

+Iris Bosch It doesn't matter how long you've read about this film. That doesn't change how damn disrespectful this is. If Disney had any decency at all, they still would honor P. L. Walt Disney would be so ashamed of his studio for this and people like you for actually supporting it.
