Lovely story, and I get what you were aiming for and its truly noble, but Alex ffs mate you missed a massive beat by not doing up the van so when he opened it up that it looked like a bedsit. Let's hope Alex gets more subscribers. I had a 330ci manual great car but my remapped e class is faster, more comfortable, safer, more reliable, just as tail happy, better built and way more economical. The x5 is amazing value but so unreliable and ugly. Miss your previous collaborators get them back in order to stay in business as this doesn't have the same fun vibe as before and you won't make the same money though your van episode was really good. Take care.

Love it 😊 Fixing these 2 up would be good viewing me thinks. I've got an E46 but unlike yourself I don't have the luxury of cheap OE parts from Meyle and Lemforder here in Australia. Hence, it shouldn't destroy your wallet too badly to repair the niggling issues. oh, and I recently found it's gonna be AU$1400 for new clutch packs, seal kit and oil pump for the ZF 5HP19 transmission. That's just parts 🤘

Glad to see the love for an E53! I’ve had my E53 4.8is for coming up on 5 years. It’s a lovely thing to be in, tows effortlessly and has been not much trouble to keep on the road. I thought I’d run it for a year, something outrageously expensive would go wrong and it’d get weighed in… but everything that has gone wrong has been easily and cheaply sorted out because of the plentiful supply of used spares. 18mpg is the only real downside, but it sounds amazing and that’s got to be worth the extra couple of thousand quid a year over the diesel, right?

I bought my E46 a couple months ago for $4k and it's been pretty reliable. It's the base model with the M54B22 (2.2 i6) and has 242k kms. It's probably the best handling car I've ever driven.

I love my 328Ci Coupe automatic, last year I bought a 2000 model with 228.000 km (141xxx miles) for €4100, spent another €2000 on tires, VANOS-rebuild, sensors and other wear parts. Now she purrs like a kitten and I'm really impressed with the highway gas mileage (42 mpg - 6,7l/100km). I hope to keep enjoying it for many more years!

As a E46 330i Touring owner , can confirm, yes they do need some maintenance, but they are great cars to go on holiday in and even take out on track for extra WTF kudos points Been to the Nurburgring 4 times and they're a hoot to drive.

Alex, you're always showing us how much of a fan you're of BMWs, but to prove how good they are, I would love to see a comparison between your E46 Touring, an Audi B4 or B5 Avant and a Mercedes S202 or S203. Could be a great video for you or CarThrottle!

Had a facelift e53 3.0d 6sp auto, apart from the suspension, powersteering rack, exhaust manifold, every possible leak from every possible angle, consuming oil and coolant, leaking inside(had a sunroof), eating air suspension bags for breakfast(many a year),head unit gone bad,sunroof gone bad, it looked greeat, drove great and it was amaizing.
