Are those live bloodworms? If so, where did you get them?
Savage
@KongregateBadgeQuest At that point, I believe I had around 15 bluefin killis, the two golden wonders, the baby convict, and a clown zebra plecostomous. Perhaps it was a bit overstocked, but the killis loved the large school, and the water stayed clean enough.
@HoppyfishPerse001 I gave the convict away to a friend before he got all too big.
@Folma7 That is quite interesting. I have wondered this myself.
What all did you have in there? I want to get some killifish for my 10gal but dunno how many I could have.
When your baby convict cichlid grow up? What will u do to it?
@mattsoccer20 - It is a 10 gallon. @maxima423 - All of my bluefin killifish unexpectedly died at about a year. I was never able to determine why. I did not think that they were an annual species. Curious as to their lifespan as well.
Very clean tank, nice. I read somewhere that this species prefer cooler water temps 76-79 deg F, which is somewhat confusing. Why do fish, native to the S.E. USA, where in the summer water temps routinely average high eighties to low nineties prefer temps 20 degrees cooler? Go figure(!)
yeah, I would stay away from them because of your small tetras. there are plenty of other species of killifish with smaller mouths, though.
the bluefin killis have very small mouths. the golden wonder killies do have large mouths, and they would definitely go after anything small enough to fit in their mouth. so I would suggest full grown neons and glow lights with smaller golden wonders. should be fine in the long run.
best of luck
im getting some soon, and i wasnt sure as to what they eat
blood worms, brine shrimp, live black worms, flake food
what do they eat?
sometimes aquabid has them, but check the feeder guppy tank at your local fish store.
that's why he was only in there when he was tiny.
that is a ten gallon.
How large is your tank?
and do ya know where i can buy eggs and such?
ur convict is gonna get mean
I don't believe so.
yes, you should keep them in schools. and they would work fine with neons.
yes, but the fish this video focuses on are the bluefin killis (small striped ones).
not really. I just replace the die off with more annuals from the feeders. at about the same time that the year-olds die, more freshly hatched ones come in the feeders of the lfs. beautiful cycle.
thts so sad :( do you get non annual killifish ?
and thanks, I like them a lot. they make me sad though, because killifish are annual fish, and a decent amount die off in a year.
they will readily accept flake food, but they love frozen meaty foods like blood worms, brine shrimp, etc. live black worms are a real treat, too.
ok thts :) do they require a special diet ? will ordenry fish food be ok btw they fish a beautiful
yes, you can mix sexes freely. and I got them from the feeder guppy tank of my local fish store.
hey just wandering if you could have mixed sexes ov the killies ? were do you get them from thanks
yep
Is that Lucania goodei?
i have a painted angler but that was awesome
keep them in a planted tank, and look for them mixed in with feeder guppies. they are pretty easy. they like meaty foods.
hey cool video do you have any tips on killifish for a noob
Cool, if you get footage of his entire body I'd probably be able to further identify him/her for you.
how many bettas were in the tank? were they all males? you should figure out what killed them before choosing different fish. and that really depends on the killifish. I currently have about 6 or 7 bluefin killis in my ten. you could get the same look with white cloud minnows. about 5-10 would be fine. just keep up on your water changes.
